Who do you insure your OAPs with?

As title really. My boy (who is 25) is currently with pet plan (until i can find a better insurance company) Wondered who you find good insure yours with? Thanks
 
I don't think (but prepared to stand corrected!) that you will get full cover with any insurance company at his age.

IIRC, the latest you can take a NEW policy is before they are 20 with petplan & they will then provide vets fees etc cover until 25. Think NFU does the same or similar but the horse has to be insured with them before they are 16 years old.
 
Thanks. Pet plan do a veteran insurance but this only covers illness (was hoping to find one that covers injury too just incase) but i thought most that will insure veterans, will only cover both if insured before 20yrs.
 
I've got my 20 year old with Petplan Equine. He is fully insured til the age of 25 when he will automatically move onto the Veteran plan. I thought it was only injury it insured after this time, not illness though....
I shopped round last year for a change of insurance, but i couldn't find any who would insure him for both illness and injury, so I have left him with Petplan who I am more than happy with, even though they are on the pricey side....
 
noone, i pay vets bills myself because to the lack of cover due to his age (23) put the money you would spend on premium to one side and you will be surprised how quickly it mounts up!

ETA i know from my point of view i wouldn't have any operation done for him and i would more than likely have him PTS if it was going to affect his quality of life for a long period, don't get me wrong i love him dearly but he's happiness is more important than the length of his life, if that makes sense.

This is a good idea. I know what you mean about PTS. You've got to think if they had an op, how happy they would be whilst recovering. I know for a fact my boy would NEVER cope if he had to be stabled after an op!
