They do tend to appear from nowehre as they are so quiet! Most of the cyclists here holler or ring their bell to warn me, but some just whizz up behind and spook poor horse!
Ditto cyclists, but I dont think its just horse riders they are inconsiderate towards.
I get really pi55ed off on a sunday morning when I'm driving to the yard and they are all cycling in a big group about 4 or 5 deep. If we were riding like that, we'd be screamed at.
I don't mean to offend anyone, as I realise this is a sweeping statement but the cyclists round my way are awful
it has been aired on here before but the lycra ones think they are a law unto themselves.
they travel en mass, ride triple and hold up the traffic and have an agressive manner, then gob and chuck their drink bottles in the hedge.
yep thats right!especially when your on a youngster thank god my girly is great on the road for a baby, but had incident were a group flew past with no consideration at all a couple of weeks ago!!how on earth they didnt notice my hi-viz stateing young horse i dont know, must be them bumble glasses they wear shame they dont give them a wider vision!!lol.
i`m having the field hedge cut one sunday morning soon, you should see their faces and here them shout when they all come flying around the corner .haha.little prickles in the road haha.
I find foreign lorry drivers when im driving (they are slow when im riding) but in their defence I think its because they are used to seeing horses as part of the traffic in the Ukraine Romania etc
I have to say that i have not yet come across any cyclists who are inconsiderat when i am riding, driving (horse), most people around our way are pretty good when it comes to horses on the road, the worst i find are holiday makers, in a rush to get the best spot at the beach no doubt.
I find it is often inconsiderate riders that give many the excuse to rant.
The odd complete knobber driver on our roads recieves my bad side, but I can hold my hand on heart and say I have never net a bad cyclist yet (and as a motorist I HATE them. )
Agree with the lycra clad nutters being the worst. 20 years ago we hacked a new purchase home, about 8 miles, we knew she was traffic proof after the first 100 or so yards as we got caught up in a cycle race
They hurtled past, shouting and whooping, nearly under the mares hooves! Never turned a hair bless her. Mind you she didn't flinch at the milk tanker three times on a narrow lane, the ambulance with its lights flashing. The only thing that worried her were the cows in a field above the road
The worst was the day she spotted a bull at the far side of a field, as she walked on the road, she was so worried about him she nearly walked over a mini metro that was coming towards her! She was a shirexclyde and would have crushed it
helicopter pilots round here!!! they are well away of all the livestock around here but the still insist on flying so low you can see there teeth (hypothetically speaking)
don't get me started on the lycra gangs - had 12 pass me on my youngster the other day and they were all in 2's or 3's - stopped the traffic on the other side too!! idiots.
I also find school mums/dads. A couple of miles up the road from the yard is a primary school, the days I actually get to ride out in the week I probably leave the yard at 3:30 and catch them all - they are so busy on their phones/telling off their children that they fly past. (probably get shot down for that one!)
Cyclists, I agree... went on a hack through the Afan Argoed Forest Park one summer's afternoon about 2 years ago, cyclists everywhere..treated us with contempt and were visibly annoyed at our presence in the Park. At on point a group tried to squeeze past us on an uphill trail, two of the cyclists were shouting comments like 'f**king disgusting animals' and complaining about us and the mess, these 'men' were aggressive and hostile, I was mortified. I have never been back there and this Park is the most glorious place.

I'll never go back to ride in the Park.
[/ QUOTE ] if its legal to ride there I would organise a fun ride and show the horrid bullys a show of strength I dont know why they are so agressive and millitant maybe its some sort of sexual frustation they suffer from??? and has anyone noticed they look like oven ready chickens when they are leaning forward to go fast
Off roaders! In 4x4s or on trail bikes churning up bridlepaths they have no right to use and destroying the countryside.
I nearly clobbered a bloke I saw ripping up a sapling tree because it was in the way of his illegal off road motorbike race.
They were an absolute menace, on and off road, on non-road legal bikes, probably without valid insurance too......... would have mowed down anyone not quick enought to get out of their way and filling the air with fumes - grrrrrrr
I have never come across an inconsiderate cyclist either. I find its usually people in the falshier cars and old drivers who dont slow down and drive too close to the horse. I have a friend who is a keen cyclist and he says you are damned if you do and damned if you dont. He says he never knows whether to shout out or ring the bell as he has had horses spook at that or just maintain a distance and try and come round wide at a convenient point and risk them spooking once in eyeshot. Horses have very good hearing and can hear whirring wheels long before we can and their near enough 360 eyesight should clock something coming up behind them fairly early on. difficult one for them I guess too...
We have a cycling club near us and I have to say they are really considerate but then my lad doesnt bother about them so i dont notice them as much.
The worst in my experience is young boys (sorry about being sexist) in sporty little cars with there music blaring. They are more inpatient and try and overtake when a car is coming.
I know it is a generalisation and there are some good ones.

I often find these 'kids' the best actually. Flash them a big smile and a wave and they're as happy as larry. The girls however................
