The worst in my experience is young boys (sorry about being sexist) in sporty little cars with there music blaring. They are more inpatient and try and overtake when a car is coming.

I often find these 'kids' the best actually. Flash them a big smile and a wave and they're as happy as larry. The girls however................

Contract tractor drivers bringing in the haylage are lethal around here. Our neighbours who are farmers are all lovely and considerate, but the guys who come in for the day to get the haylage in are a menace for all other road users. When we spot them we just can't risk riding out.

Cyclists are really good round here. A good tip for them is to whistle when they are being horses, this doesn't seem to upset the horses but it also alerts the riders.

holiday makers, who forget that their caravan is wider than their car...........

or old people with seemingly no sense of depth perception.

A combination of the above is also NOT good.

We have a moron woman with a horsebox round our way who genuinely cannot judge the size of it.

Was out on a hack with OH last year and we were on a narrow lane and she got right on OH's horses tail, so we trotted on and pulled in on someones driveway, just as she overtook us, so close that we could have dismounted and got into the cab of the lorry without touching the ground.

I told the owner of the horses we were riding and she knew who we were talking about and phoned her and gave her what for.

Good: young lads in souped up cars, they seem to worry it will get damaged so they tend to stop and turn the engine off. A wink and a wave helps!

Ok: bikers, majority of. Tend to understand how it feels to hit the tarmac, still get some tossers though who think it is funny to rev as they go past.

Annoying: mothers/women, completely unaware if any other people in existence other than themselves.

Worst: trail bikers. Bunch of bastards. End of.

From a motorist point of view cyclists can be pests.

We have a local cycle club, run by an idoit. They hold races/time trials (dont really know how they work) down one of the back lanes, that you can just fit two cars on, but is really narrow. So you are driving down there sensibly, come round a bend theres a bloody cyclist, you cant over take safely as there is a car coming towards you, so slam on the brakes, really not safe. There is a nice lovely straight bit of duel carriageway they would be better going on (as runs parrallel to county lane), not to much traffic on it, and people would see them a whole lot better.

But the worst example I have ever seen from a cyclist when I was going for a riding lesson at a school about an hours drive from my house. Happily going down a "B" road about 50mph, there is a cycle race going off, where the cyclists were crossing the "B" road from one small country lane to another. As I was coming down the road, a stupid cyclist just cycled straight out in front of me without stopping to look if there was any traffic coming.

Fortunatly the stupid fool then realised there was a car coming and braked half way across the lane he was in, if he hadnt have done he would have been dead, as I would have hit him. To cap it all off, about a mile down the road the cyclists were crossing the "B" road in the same manner, and there was a steward there. Thought it was best to tell him someone was being a prat and had nearly been killed, so we pulled up to talk to him, and all he said was "you cant park there you are in the way of the bikes!" told him what had happened, and didnt seem to give two shits!

Of course you are right!!!

We should all bear in mind that the CTC (lycra brigade's governing body) are actually very active in working to keep bridleways open and while some may be annoying and inconsiderate some may be very sympathetic to riders.

My husband cycles and rides, and my uncle is a member of one of the annoying clubs of lycra wearers and neither are inconsiderate. Often it is just lack of awareness.

I had a long chat with my uncle about the best way for cyclists to approach walkers and horses as he said it came up time and again at club meetings. Road bikes especially are very quiet and can be ridden very fast. Some use bells or horns, others whistle or speak, and some just have intentionally squeaky brakes! Personally I think just calling "excuse me" or "morning" is the best warning and more polite than ringing a bell (I don't like shouts of "mind your back" or "coming through" so much though) but cyclists do have considerable angst about this, and get very varied reactions from other road/bridleway users.

Trail motorcyclists (don't know the correct term). For some reason there are a group which drive in a van to the village where I livery my horse and roar up and down some wasteland. The police are a regular feature as people keep calling them out to complain. I sympathise with them but they have revved their engines at my horses deliberately, but my two are both so bold I let them walk up the bikes and sniff them and chatted away to the riders, which kind of put them off their stride a bit!

I have to admit to also being a cyclist, and I would say that you do have to cycle at a reasonable speed to get training benefit. And its not just cyclists that ride two abreast! Its much more pleasant for cyclists to ride on country lanes too and as for it inconveniencing car drivers, well I don't think its too bad to have your journey delayed by 30 seconds for having to look out for other road users. Most time triallists would rather ride down a dual carriageway as well (because it is an individual race to cover a certain distance as fast as possible against the clock) so I am guessing the police have stopped them. Most time trials are also early morning affairs, to avoid traffic.

The country park incident sounds awful. If I were on my mountain bike, I stick to trails that are for bikes only, because its just too dangerous if you come across pedestrians or anyone else descending at speed!

Cyclists where we are aren't too bad, but they're usually used to horses if they cycle on the estate. It's tourists and chavs who come up with their dogs and let them off ... despite all the signs saying all dogs must be kept on leads! Luckily Dylan doesn't usually bother with dogs.

Generally cyclists. As a motorist I hate coming up to them, not because I resent them being on the road, but because I worry too much when I'm overtaking them! They have every right to be on the road, it's me being a numpty! However I was NOT impressed to come along two cyclists on the ring road (national speed limit), cycling two abreast in poor light with no lights or high viz. They were riding ALONGSIDE a cyclepath and there was no need for them to be on the road at all.
Recently out hacking on a path we have permission to ride along I got abuse from a cyclist for being on it. The guy came up behind me and shouted saying he'd like to come past, so I moved Genie over for him although there was plenty of room but I thought he may have been nervous of horses, fair enough. As he cycled past he gave me a load of abuse and told me I shouldn't be on there. A bridlepath starts and finishes on that path, how else am I supposed to get to it?
I've found 'boy racers' to be VERY courteous and I always show my gratitude, the same with motorcyclists. Agree that Mums on their way somewhere are a nightmare.

Young male drivers. Never had a problem with cycist, pedal or motor powered, nor with lorrys, tractors, etc.

I dont know why they are so agressive and millitant maybe its some sort of sexual frustation they suffer from??? and has anyone noticed they look like oven ready chickens when they are leaning forward to go fast

Doubt if its sexual frustration as its a well known fact that too much cycling makes men Impotent!

Cyclists! I was hacking, 2 abreast, with a friend when a group of lycra-clad cyclists suddenly came up behind us. They whizzed past and then had the cheek to shout abuse to us because we were 2 abreast!! They took up most of the road!
That said, there are lots of really considerate cyclists too. The MOST considerate are motorcyclists though. I have never met an inconsiderate one - even the off-road scrambler bikers are really considerate, to the point that they will stop, turn their engines off and remove their helmets if we meet them on a green lane local to us.
