Who does'nt "love" riding?

I don't really anymore. It's not a major problem too me as far as im concerned. The job I have is non ridden groom, One of my horses is retired and the other is not in need of everyday hard work so we tick along happily, He's probably one of the only horses I trust completely and enjoy riding so it works for us!
To everyone else however its an issue?
I get comments all the time "don't you miss proper riding" "don't worry we'll get you back onboard on day" "she's just a happy plodder" hahaha!
Actually im not a happy plodder- My horse is ridden correctly but is my hobby not a serious competition prospect and god know's im certainly no competition prospect!
I genuinely 100% honestly DO NOT WANT to do anymore and it irritates me that people belittle me for this. Its not that im scared (although this did stem from 3 bad falls in a short space of time!) Its not fear but I guess I do worry about being incapacitated- I need to earn money and drive etc.
I don't wish to play chess- I don't wish to compete or ride other horses.....end of!
 
I have taken a break to lose weight and have missed riding but have loved doing more groundwork!

Back on board at weekend though still have more to lose but I'm happy!
 
Ive gone through phases where I felt I should be doing more. Up until I lost my horse I really prefered grooming her and juat spending time with her than riding.
When I decided to retire my elderly pony people on the yard would tell me that I needed to get a new horse to ride. I didnt want to ride another horse, I was perfectly happy being with her and having a chat and a cuddle.
Ive always been a happy hacker and unless a miricle happens tomorrow I will never be one for competing, I would rather hack or ride in the school.

In the winter I usually leave it - for months.

Love it? hmmmm.
Actually I don't love anything, I am a bit (lot) jaded, very little gives me that buzz anymore horsewise, I spend so much time actually looking after basic needs that a lot of the time I don't even like horses anymore, it has been a long winter and now I am fed up to the back teeth to be frank - hence spoiling myself and buying Ella.

I enjoy the odd trail ride but I really need an incentive, when I hunted (which I adored) I rode because the horses had to be fit, when I did LDR ditto, recently - like the last few years I haven't ridden much at all, sometimes for months on end. As I no longer hunt I have become a fair weather rider, I don't enjoy getting wet or cold, so I don't.

Now, I have a (very) whizzy new pony and plans, just have to wait for the weather to give me a break, every day I think, "yep I'll ride" and I go outside and it's blowing a gale, the snow is coming at me horizontally and it's -7C (right now it is noon) -13C and more snow forecast tomorrow and I think "nope, sod this for a game of soldiers"

I thought I'd miss riding when I bought a foal, but I haven't at all, I get the same buzz from her company and teaching her new things on the ground. So if for what ever reason I couldn't ride her I'd still enjoy caring for her. But the riding will be a bonus when I finally get there!

So what if you want to care for your horse and not ride, lots of people do this, no one else's biz tell em to trot on!
 
I got myself a big horse, lost weight so I could ride, just for hacks ect. Then after a few times, and thinking I don't really like this, I gave up, have a sharer for horse and now carriage drive him. I still love spending time messing about with the horses, just have no incentive to get on him now. Have been round horses all my life, but self preservation kicked in... I imagined what could happen if I fell off and being sole career for child and old parents I thought twice..
I like driving though.
 
Maybe they are just trying to be encouraging OP, they probably think there is some secret reason like nerves or something!

I can't really be bothered to ride mostly, my horse point blank refuses to school at the mo, its muddy anyway and she needs to be a bit more confident on the roads before I will hack her alone often, I seize the opportunity to go out in company and I do enjoy it but the motivation to tack up is often too much. What it boils down to with me is that road work is not fun and we have to go a fair way to get to bridleways which aren't great, I don't know if its me being nervous or sensible, but basically I like fun canters in the countryside, or sometimes relaxed walks on a hot day taking it in, not being anywhere near traffic!

If I had miles of off road hacking I think it would be quite different.
 
I don't enjoy riding my horse and I never have, I've had him for 9 years since he was a yearling. He's just too nutty and way too attached to mares. I made a decision last year to buy a happy plodder cob who I'm going to break in this year and I'm going to sell my other boy. I feel really bad selling him but he needs a lot of work to keep him happy and someone who doesn't mind something fizzy and scatty!
I say do what you enjoy, my mums got a retired mare and hasn't ridden for years now and is very happy just grooming her and helping me with mine :)
 
I do love riding but haven't been able to ride my own horses for the last two years...one is a youngster, one my daughter's l/r pony and my other I bought as an older horse to back and ride whilst waiting for my youngster, and who turned out to be majorly issue-ridden and had to be turned away and worked with very patiently and slowly...not sure if he will ever be more than a field ornament..(tho refuse to give up on him entirely!) so in the meantime, I have learned to love groundwork and being on the ground with them. I used to find it really hard not to ride but I've eventually come to really love all the other things/ways of spending time with them as much as riding...that said, still can't wait to actually ride one of the b****rs...one day!!
 
I can take it or leave it. After years of working as a groom exercising hunters and point to pointers which is virtually all I have done since I was a working pupil doing BHS exams. I can say hacking bores me senseless though I would like to do some competitions and hunt before I get too decrepit.

And there's a certain type of horse I like riding, forward going, buzzy. And can't say I am missing riding out in the freezing cold!
 
I love riding! But there is more important things to do with your horse than riding him. Giving him some treats and spending lots of time with him is one of the most important things! :D
