We have Mr Biggles - racing name Destino. He was a very sad little racer boy - who kept getting bored half way through the races he ran. We bought him last October and he ran his last race August 28th!
Castle Valentine aka Darcy - rising 5, raced on the flat and currently being a complete superstar and learning how to do everything! Been xc, jumping and first dressage is at the end of next month - so laidback you'd never believe he could be an exracer, just started him on oats for a bit of oomph!!! Planning some showing too this summer, hoping to go to the Exracer Club Classes and maybe to the Champion of Champions show, even if just to watch!!!
and the other is currently living with me to start her reschooling. She is rising 4 and the sweetest thing I have ever had the pleasure to work with... she has a massive future ahead of her, had thought about buying her myself but doubt I could do her justice... not the best pic but you'll get the idea - this is Pinky, only strawberry roan TB I have seen...!
Cornwallexracer - i am coming to steal Banjo next time I am down your way... I just love him!
I have one, got him at the end of July and we have had our ups and downs but we are getting there albeit slowly!!!! he has a fabulous nature but is very sharp and spooky when ridden.
I have owned one before who was a temperamental buggar to say the least but fab to ride he would do pretty much anything asked of him but he was a lot older.
I have an ex p-2-p'er.... Callmesometime. He is amazing and has taught me loads. A TB really didn't feature on my shopping list when I was looking for a horse, but I am so glad I ended up with him. I am a nervous rider and he REALLY looks after me. I suspect he is only an ex p-2-p'er as he HATES being in front and doesn't really like going particularly fast - not good if you want to win races!! It can get a bit embarassing heading into the arena with that name being called across the loud speaker though!!
I've got an ex-hurdler - Magic Cave - apparentely she has very good breeding (or so the dealer said!
) - she's by Kemal (a French stallion). But she only raced three times and didn't do very well. She's retired now as she fractured a bone in her hock but we used to do a bit of everything - SJ, XC, showing, etc. She was a bit of a nutter to ride but she taught me a lot. Here's a picture....
I've got one, Koodoo, by Fasliyev (USA) out of Karsiyaka, a Goldford stud broodmare. He is rising six, and came out of training a year ago.
He is the sweetest boy, who I adore! I think he has the most beautiful head, and could happily talk about him all day- sad, i know!
I haven't done an awful lot with him... a bit of showjumping over the summer and some XC schooling, but hope to do lots of hunter trials in the spring. We are hoping to go hunting for the first time in the next couple of weeks.
He is a fantastic hack- pretty much bomb proof, so we go out nearly every day, and spent all summer galloping across stubble fields
! However, I can't get him going in an arena. He switches off unless he's behind another horse- so no dressage for us!
Doing this post has made me realise I have no good pics of him 'stood up', but here goes;
He's a very handsome boy isn't he - such a striking colour as well. And he is so laid back and affectionate. We love him a lot. And more than anything - as I am not the horsie one - I feel he is safe with my 16 year old! I think we'll keep him
wow what a lovely bunch. and all doing really well, its great to see. hi to scarlett i've seen u around on horse directory and ex racers forum. pinky is adorable and the only strawb roan tb i've seen. and nuala if u decide not to keep mr biggles send him my way lol
koodoo looks brill, shame he won't school how u would like him to, he looks lovely in ure ridden pics, bet there's a dressage horse hidden in there somewhere lol

lol how did u think the poor announcer must feel?
my ex racer prefers to follow out on hacks and he is so laid back he's nearly comatose. but i've watched some of his races, and he leads basically the whole race (except at the most important bit, namely the finish!) and the pic i have of him at his old trainers on the gallops, he's leading the pack. so he's the total opposite to what he should be.
Me! I have had Sunny (in my av) since October and she has been great! Taken to her new life really well. We have had some schooling issues and some nutty chestnut mare moments but she has the sweetest temperment and always tries her best. Her racing name was Sunny Ways.
Joe never raced. He went to a trainers yard in Lingfield and it was decided he needed to mature so he was slung in a field for 18 months. I saw him and bought him as a 3 1/2 yr old. So not quite an ex racer but the thought was there. He is now rising 7 and although he has good breeding there really is no spark of racing instinct there at all. He will lead on a hack but the minute he is overtaken he slinks in behind.
There are two other ex racers at my yard....Cossack King (cousin to my tb) and Cool spot. Cossack king retired at 5 as a non tryer and cool spot ended a succesful career at 15. Both are happy riding horses
