They all do that. thats nothing new. how do you think wrighty got john peace from polly? and how ollie has gained all those top horses? i think its completely out of order and id hate to have my rides poached from me but unfortunately its becoming very common these days
Fair play to her, I admire people with get up and go and if she has the gumption to contact people for sponsorship/rides, I'd strongly recommend considering her!
I'd assume that if you are a professional rider with an owner that you are producing results for you have no need to fear this kind of approach.
How do people like her manage to show their face at events knowing what they are trying to do to all their "friends"? I know she is not the only one, but it is not good practice - it is too small a world...
Thankfully, Pootler, my owners brought said letter up and we have had a good laugh at her expense.
I totally agree with you that i would admire anyone who can go out and find owners and/or sponsors - maybe she should aim for new people and not those of her friends!!!
Hmmmm - takes being 'keen to progress' a whole stage further
. IMO thats taking things a bit far. Would not be happy (if I were a pro rider) and this happened to me, and would NOT be speaking to said rider in the lorry park having 'poached' my horse and/or owner.

really? i think it's rather cheeky, to put it mildly.
the phrase 'be nice to the people you pass on the way up, for they'll be there on your way down' springs to mind! I'd be livid, cheeky cow. There's ambitious and then there's plain ruthless
My understanding is that she's not directly poaching rides, she's looking for people to sponsor her own horses.
I've heard tales of a well know UK male very tall rider who quite happily approaches the owners of good intermediate horses to poach the rides with a view to taking them 4* (allegedly) so it's not exactly unusual.
Its how she got Birthday Night so it has worked in the past.
It happens in every industry but perhaps in eventing which is a close knit sport then its even harder.
Personally I do not think top horses ever move around much as they get the results with their riders. I think loads of this sort of stuff goes on but its not really talked about.

ah, that's a point, i'd forgotten that one. allegedly he says "this one will win Le Lion with me" too. now, there's confidence for you...
Would Harry Meade, Birthday Night's previous rider not count as up-and-coming? Learning what I have in the last few hours, I'd be amazed if that was innocent!
Letters get written as well as comments made to owners as for example at burghley as their horse comes out dressage test as not mentioning any names one of the top male riders says that horse would do alot better with me of top to the owners and suprise suprise the horse has now moved yards! ive got many more stories this is only one of them bt they are all along the same lines and i think its awful they are all supposed to be friends but they love to stab each other in the back at the first opportunity!
I think it's a pretty dirty trick to be honest. Making what could be construed as throwaway comments to other riders' owners at an event is not quite as calculated as sitting down and writing them a letter.
Why not show a bit of initiative and go away and find new owners like others do?
I would imagine the event lorry park could become a pretty lonely place fast for someone who does somethng like this to friends.
I cant believe someone will once again have a go at her on a forum!? Do you want it to be closed down???
I know of at least 2 4* riders who have done this... IMO its pretty common practice. Saying that, its not right. But to single out a young up and coming talent isnt really right... after all shes just trying to do something with her life!
