Who else is having a problem with all the fly's this year !!!

I know we have a lot of flys in the summer time, but this year seems worse than last year. No matter what fly spray i put on the horses, none seem to work that well. And when i go to the field to bring them in i have to wave my hands every where as they are in their hundreds and land on me, YERK....
 
Pretty foul, I must say. He's so covered every morning, no matter how early, that I'm leaving his flymask on overnight. My mate is spraying herself before going in the field!
 
Yes, we have tons! Horrid horrid horrid! My pony has never suffered from sweet itch and I wouldn't say she has it now but the flies are making her itch her tail and mane so badly. My one saviour this year has to be the derby house uv fly rug (silver/purple), it covers everything bar her legs and nose and has really really helped.
 
Me :( They are vile.

No spray has worked. Fly rug doesn't protect him from them all and I never know if I should leave it on or off due to constant changes with the weather.
 
I have never known the horse flies to be so bad. My mare jumped out of the field last week to escape them. She had a fly rug and full mask and they were still driving her nuts. I rode her today and was constantly swatting flies and clegs. She was wearing fly veil and nose net. When do the clegs die off? anyone found a spray that actually works?
 
i thought this too i have had to buy loads of fly spray a fly rug new masks bite cream fly cream and aloe vera gel to soothe the bites and also i think he has started to develop sweet itch down his belly!
hes also got sores on his sheath where he itches hmself from fly bites
i feel so sorry for him and he i constantly purple cos i dont want the bites getting infected

last year all he had was a mask and a bit of spray

bet she smells good lol tell her to spray herself with avon skin so soft works really wellfor people

They really seem to be going for my boy's belly button (as it were) and his sheath. I've plastered him in sudocream as they stay away from him then.

yep thats were they get my pony its horrible i think hes got sweetitch down there now cos its all scabby and now gone yellow even though i constantly coverd in purpl spray
might go out n get some sudocream
 
I have never seen them so bad, most of ours have sore eyes at some point through the day. Ive put masks on the worse two but the rest are in with youngsters and I worry about them getting caught up when they play. Ive been blathering sheaths in D Itch along with foreheads and ears. I have never seen so many horse flies and am sick of being bitten, Ive also killed loads when they are mid bite on the horses. The weather is weird at the moment though so maybe that is why there are so many!
 
I too, have never seen flies so bad. I have never felt before as if my horse would actually fall over trying to get rid of the flies. He is also wearing fly mask over night. He has really rubbed forelock and top of mane. And no, flyspray seems to make no difference apart from to my purse!
 
Yes, we have tons of them here, even with their fly masks on when i go to fetch them in there are swarms of them on them, even with the horse fly's this year i have been bitten loads and had bad reactions, the worst i have known it for years.
 
They are awful down here. My friesian has very bad reactions to fly bites, comes out in lumps and her eyes get very sore and swollen from them. Have got her covered as much as possible with fly sheet, and got some brilliant yellow cream i smear over her face daily.

YAY!!! LOL Glow in the dark warpaint stripes! :D Poor love. Deosect and neem seem to help a little. Panj gets a "hot spot" on his neck - x fingers it doesn't go any further!!! Lincoln's Arnica and Witchazel Gel seems to help cool them down.

One of the things Friesians are prone to app! (among others! *roll eyes!* )
 
There seems to be more horseflies, and bigger ones too this year.

My horse goes nuts if he's bitten by one, and he is allergic to their bites. He's stabled during the day and out at night, so he has relief from them, but any riding has to be done either at the crack of dawn or just before dusk - you may think this is a bit extreme, but I've already been concussed once this year from being bronked off when he was being attacked by a horsefly, so I'm taking no more chances!
 
yeah flies are terrible this year. ours are spending most of their mornings and evenings in to get away from flies. WARNING...Friend has used EFFOL fly spray this year as she did last year...Somehow it has BURNED her all over, hair falling out terrible mess. Not sure what they put in new formula but its not good for her anyway.
 
Mine seem to be being driven mad by the horrible normal flys (if you know what I mean) Swams of them round them, they climb inside their fly rugs & masks & seem to literally eat them alive!!!

Power phaser fly repellent does work, the sray & gel but it does need to reapplied every couple of hours at the moment.

But funnily enough there have been less migdes this year which normally drive our sweetitch pony mad. It has got to be to do with the weather, midges like hot & humid flys obviously like hot & dry!
 
We have huge problems this year with flies - our Vet has suggested attaching flectron tags in our horses manes and tails - they are usually tagged to cows ears. Don't get rid of the flies completely, but are definitely helping the situation :)
