Who else is still not rugging?

Only have 15yr old TB X rugged at the moment in a lightweight, he feels the cold & was shivering, my Sec D, Arab X & Welsh A X are unrugged until heavy, persistent rain starts.. they are fine with cold. Evil *****land looks like a fluffball already lol

I replied earlier saying I hadnt....went down this morning feeling a tad guilty and thought "if i need gloves he needs a rug" but he didnt, he was toasty all over and happily munching so GO WITH YOUR GUT INSTINCT but it is hard I know.
Your hands are bare skin, your horse has a full fur coat.

The rug companies and some of the horse magazines really annoy me with their aggressive marketing, talking about horses being 'toasty' when in fact this would mean that the horse was uncomfortably warm.

My girl is still naked & out 24/7. She's getting very hairy now so soon time for clipping as she's getting very sweaty when ridden. Will rug after clipping as & when necessary

Tipsy has a lightweight on as he has no fur (he's a TB) but fly is un rugged- mainly because he can't have a rug on after deciding to tear his shoulder open though -_- despite being an Arab though he has the longest coat I've ever seen on any horse and I think he's enjoying his few month break being wild...

Im not rugging yet, my two are getting rather fluffy now.
Dry rot :O :O :O I thought my horses were fluffy!! Lol

Could anyone tell me though, is there a way to know if their cold. When rugged I know to put my hand between their front legs and if their cold there, their not warm enough, and also putting hand under rug tells you alot.
but if their not rugged, apart from them shivering (a stage I dont want them getting to) is there a way to monitor it?

If they are cold, they will move around more to warm up. I doubt a healthy horse would stand shivering when it has the ability to move around. I prefer to give my pony more hay and leave him unrugged. x

Pearlsasinger. My horse is NOT rugged! I didnt make myself clear...i was thinking about rugging him but was right not to as when i felt him all over, he was already 'toasty'.

My TB is in a lightweight as she is a delicate little flower, but the NF is only 3, not broken in yet, overweight and already has fur like a yeti.......she doesn't like rugs, gets very hot and itchy and will only be rugged in a lightweight if she goes out in torrential rain....

Mine are both still out overnight, stabled during the day. The older boy (17yo) has a 70g rug on. He's usually a really warm horse and I don't tend to rug this early but we've had such a crap summer that he hasn't come out of it the weight he would normally. Given his age and various creaky ailments, he's feeling his age a bit now and is happier rugged.

The pony (6yo Connie type) is a hairy beast and out naked tonight. If it's pouring down he'll get a no fill TO on but it's for my benefit (so I don't have a soaking wet filthy horse), not his. Once I clip and bring in at night I'll rug more. The pony is currently a bit chubby so being out naked won't kill him!
