I have recently acquired a new saddle, and am concerned about how 'in love' I am with it.

I would love to hear any really funny / wierd stories about people that have been totally obsessed over an inanimate object that perhaps they have waited years and years to get.

Im exactly the same! especially if its somethign i had to save for or work hard for as it was a bit more expensive than i woudl have usually bought

When I was a kid I used to write my christmas list straight out of the robinsons catalogue and for years it was etched into our dining room table! I aksed for a saddle one year and didn't even have a horse! It was £350 and my parents bought it for me. I got a big saddle stand too and I used to sit on my saddle, with stirrups and shetland girth to hold it on around the stand, and watch thrills and spills in front of the tv, all kitted out! There's a bit on thrills and spills called jocky cam where you can see a race through a camera mounted on the jockey's hat and I used to hitch my stirrups up and pretend I was racing! I'm so embarrassed now, should never have admitted to any of this!

I think this is just an extension of new wellies syndrome - when I was a child I hated wearing my new wellis outside,I used to clean them so I could wear them indoors and put them at the side of my bed, I have nearly got over this now (not).

When you work hard to save up for something nice its only natural to be proud and to look after an item (my new oven stayed clean for nearly 6 months!). Now if you told me you kept a nice new saddle at the end of the bed I would be a bit worried

Me me me!!! (she says jumping up and down) i bought a stubben bridle last week and did a part exchange at catlips farm yesterday on a great 2nd hand dressage saddle and am so so happy i keep wanting to get up from my office desk to go and look at it in my car!!!! I have my eye on upgrading my jumping saddle there next month

JosieSmith, that is such a fab little story!

Never heard of anyone's parents doing that for them until now, really sweet.

I am worried I am going to be very much in love with my new saddle whenever it turns up

FANTASTIC !!!!! I am tittering away to myself at my desk. I was bored senseless, now I'm p'ing myself laughing (well quietly chuckling anyway)

I started this post in a very reserved fashion, but now I know there are other nutters out there, i will add more detail .......

Well Ive now joined the 'grown up' world and bought myself my first dressage saddle. I've longed for one for about 10 years or more. Now that I have it, I have taken pics of it which are stored safely on my phone for when i need a 'fix'. Furthermore, every evening, poor horsie is tied up and new saddle is plonked on his back and tinkered with, admired, maybe stroked a little and under my breath, told how loved it is. Horse think Im talking to him (of course I love him) but i'm afraid not - its the saddle !
But theres more..........
Horse is lame, so i have SAT ON THE SADDLE ON THE SADDLE HORSE !!!!! (hangs head in shame). Ok, so i don't take my feet of the floor, and it is done carefully, but how bad is that ?? And it wasn't cheap !! If anyone else sat on my saddle on the saddle horse, i am sure I would beat them with a broom !! And my age - well I'm not 6yrs old, or even 12. I am fast approaching 40 !!!!

Catlips and Sheila, cant beat it ! Where are you then ?

Just rembered one although it isn't a purchase, I had a portrait done of my horse done for my 21st (total surprise) and I haven't been able to stop looking at it. When I opened it I cried my eyes out

I love it so much I had to take pictures of it on my phone so I could get my fix from it when I wasn't at home

crazy: crazy lady!

I'll never forget after i bought my first horse (chestnut in sig) i was 14, and we got the saddle fitted and measured before we actually collected her (bought her from my trainer), so for about a week the saddle lived in my bedroom so it didnt get dusty or dirty (think i cleaned it every day too!) - made my room smell lovely - just like a tack room. not sure my mum was so impressed though!

im in guildford, surrey so hour and half round trip actually took nearl 3 with m25 closure but so worth it and roped my yard owner into coming with me...so mini roadtrip...i can forsee hours spent in catlips on rainy sundays!!!

OMG I thought it was just me! I just bought a new saddle and was meant to sell the old one... but have decided to keep the old one for my trainer to ride in and I will use the new one just for me, too scared it will get scratched if I leave it in the tack room!

So at the moment beloved new saddle is living in my living room and now and again I like to lift off the saddle cover and feel that soft new leather...

so a very long journey, then knowing Sheila bless her a very long wait once your there !!!!!!!!!!!

As you say though - worth it.

Oh i cant wait... ive ordered my dressage saddle, its my favourite ever saddle and its taken ages to save up for it. I should get it around the 24th Sept! Ages away!

I used to sit on the side of our sofa like a jockey and pretend to race....

Guilty... the last one was my birthday cake as my OH had a "cake artist" do a picture of my horse on it. So everyone could have cake, but "not his head!!!" we cut round it for a week before peeling the icing off to eat the cake underneath just could not bring myself to cut it...sad or what!!

Love Sheila and Catlips- but unless she has changed them- the opening hours are 9-6 Mon- Thurs, 3-6 on fridays, 9-6 on saturdays and closed on sundays
