After 10 days being holed up with the snow and ice, I managed to go for a short hack today.

My cob is very fit, with a few quirks (!), and normally hunted twice a week so was a little apprehensive how he would behave, but am proud to report he was as good as gold!

I had to lead him in hand down our drive, sticking to the snow rather than icy car tracks, then got onto the lane and hopped on - it felt fab and he was really cheerful too!

Has anyone else managed to get back in the saddle yet?

Nope have ridden once this week in the menage for about 15 mins in walk as was covered in snow. Could of got out today to be honest, but I didn't get up the yard until just gone 3 & was getting dark quick so plan to go out for a hack Sat as won't have time tomorrow & I can't blooming wait to get back on :D

I think our boys wil be very full of themselves when they go out - track by yard is still very Icey so will be another couple of days - just to give them a bit more energy - happy days 😊

too icy at the moment :( cars skidding everywhere, Rio is unsteady on the ice and snow which has ice underneath and does a bit of irish dancing... or should i say spanish dancing? when walking and frightens him self :o also he doesnt have a saddle as its at the saddlers... Taz hasnt been ridden since christmas day so im not planning on my first ride back on him being in icy conditions... call me cautious ;)

Yeah - me too. Did the same - lead horse to road, scramble on in an ungainly fashion, hack on roads as they were clear. He was good as gold for which I was very grateful. I'm going to start a campaign for roadside mounting blocks!!;)

I am waiting for the arena to thaw so I can lunge my horse before I have to get back on! Hoping tomorrow will be the day :)

Not a chance in hell. Steep driveway of sheet ice and snow. At the top, the road is sheet ice. A few metres of road then it's all off-road, but starts off as byway, so this, too is all compacted snow and ice. Rubbish! Boo hiss!

Meeee!

Mare has been off with a sicknote for about 8 weeks and my friend decided yesterday was the day to get back in to the groove. So we went yesterday AND today. Feeing well smug as she was a complete angel both times. No silliness at all, which is rare for Her Thoroughbredship!

I wish! Half-mile access road still solid ice, plus he's been kicked in the field this morning and has a sore and puffy stifle so will probably be lame when it does thaw! Blimmin horses...

Nope - not ridden one for almost 2 weeks (who now has lymphangitis - bl**dy tbs!) and the other for 10 days.

Fingers crossed this weekend will be doable cos royally fed up and ponies are bored stiff despite being turned out 12 hours a day or more

I haven't ridden for 2 weeks now, the lane to my yard is thick ice. Can't get to the school, which is frozen anyway, as it's along said lane, and don't fancy riding in the fields on ice stilts. Horse has been out pretty much most days, although she really isn't too keen, and just stands and eats her hay. Yesterday they did go for a bit of a run around as my two little natives decided to act silly in the parallel field, which gave me a few heart stopping moments as she slid to a halt infront of the fence!! Today though, the ground has frozen solid and the yard is sheet ice so they have stayed in, contentedly, I have to say. Was hoping for a rapid thaw by tomorrow, but updated weather forecast looks like more snow, so no riding for me!!
I do, however, have next week off work, so hopefully things will get back to normal. Not too worried that she will be silly, as I'd already eased her work back a bit, and I think I'll be just ticking her over now until spring, as I think we haven't seen the last of the cold weather yet.
February could be awful!!

I did have time in the end today to go for a hack & it felt so good to get back on & go out :D. Anyone would think I hadn't ridden for months, but only been a week :o
