Following on from Mrs Bs thread...

Who else owns a cow pony or similar?

I've got 2! A 22 year old Cushings lad who is still in almost full time work, a big personality and real character.

And... A 5yo slightly lighter in build cow. Still a bit of a baby, but a big softy.

I hack mainly. Do the odd sport of dressage and jumping for fun. In a blunt fashion they serve the purpose I need them for. They won't win any beauty prizes, the old mans a quirky one and they look like cows with saddles on, but I won't be swapping them for anything slimmer and less hairy anytime soon.

cow enough for you ? :D

Just like to add she is mid yawn, sister wasn't pulling on her mouth :)

Cattle pony - the genuine article!

Mind OH slags my pair off for being cows... Secretly he does anything for a sneaky hack on the old man...

Excuses have included "shall we use cob as a nanny when we take Gerry past *insert scaryness here*" or "I just need to see if cobs sound under saddle, with his cushings and that"... Thinks I don't know he has a soft spot for the old beggar.

It's called a pow!! I do, he's called fat basil and he's brilliant. Very greedy though. And I'm sure he's part pidgeon also as he always knows which way is home...

She's a horse  all 14.1 of her :o:p:D

She has just started her cattle working career :)

One of mine looks like a hereford cow complete with blue eyes and big white face

the other is, like Ffion's, a genuine cow pony, by nature, and breeding.

The new one is showing signs that she will be very good at penning too...that's cow work too, she neither looks like a cow or is a QH/Paint.

Beautiful horse!

I hope you don't mind me pointing out though, but your saddle looks like it is tipping back a lot.

Thank you,

That saddle is pts :P this was a week after we first got her and she came with that horrible saddle, got the saddle fitter out who said although it isn't causing any pain it isnt ideal she now has a lovely new saddle that is better for all of us :)

Dad used to call it the "buckaroo" saddle :D

Well done for getting the saddle fitter out! I bet you are all happier with a saddle that fits properly now - It looks like it put you in an awful position!

It was top of our list, she is a funny shape really beefy up front from pulling bow top wagons so saddle was shaped to fit her, perfect match at the moment :) It was like sitting on a slab of marble, no padding i actually rode bareback for the first week :o my sister used the saddle as she is a heck of a lot lighter than me. But she did say it was like trying to ride whilst lying down....

Mine is a (genuine) cattle horse not a cow pony...:p

This is what i thought when i read the titel of this post, my horse is an american cattle horse and i refer to him as a cow pony as its job to herd cattle though yesterday he decided to wrangle the pheasents in the field and chase them out instead
