.....is a sadist!
Change rein in canter on short diagonal, give and retake over centre line then straight in to counter canter.
That'll teach me to look at tests BEFORE entering. At least N23 looks nice(ish) :o

I hate it. My horse is a shiverer, so he finds the random rein back really difficult. He can use his hindquarters great going forwards and sideways, but going backwards sets off the shakes. It's really annoying, was prepared for then come elem but one test at novice with one is really frustrating.

Just to be a bit more helpful than my "Ooh, I really like it" post above - my advice is to make sure you really use your corner to balance the canter before the diagonal and the G&R. Imagine you have a wall on either side of you so you stay really straight and don't lose the quarters, and use quiet half halts a couple of strides before. Make sure you don't make your horse come short in his neck when you're preparing - the judge wants to see balance and self carriage. Position the G&R bang over the center line to give yourself time to rebalance before the counter canter. And breathe! I remember reading something about Carl Hester once, and how his greatest skill was "creating time" for him to ride the movements in the ring by not panicking and rushing through them.

Good luck!
