If that is the sort of treatment the poor horse is receiving then it's no wonder it's difficult!
Whoever dreamt up that 'remarkable' action should be ashamed of themselves!

uuum...it's a "stallion" chain.......not the type you stick on your gate, love..

do people on here really live n the same planet as most "normal" horse owners??????

[ QUOTE ]
for the entertainment factor, lec, ask the owners to to give the bloody thing to MM....

[/ QUOTE ]

Good idea!

It is TOTALLY beyond me why ANYONE would want to take on a maniac horse just to try and stick a finger in the eye of those who say "shoot it"

Oh sorry 'love' don't have stallions myself so wouldn't know much about whatever chains you stick in their mouths!
How damn rude! I am a perfactly normal horse owner, thank you very much - do not presume to know me or how capable I am as a horse owner!
My own horse is happy, healthy & well behaved so I would have no need for chains to restrain him!

honestly, Lou......

sheesh.......i have to say, that since my return from self-imposed exile, it seems like walking through treacle......

didnt want to be your friend....not being rude...and as you say you know nothing about stally chains..so dont make a comment about something you aren't aware of..

how YOUR horse is,.... is NOT the subject of this thread, so that is irrelevent........

Have read the whole post and am amazed at the number of people who think they could turn this horse around when professionals have tried and failed.

I agree with JM - would love to see MM tame this wild beastie. Have these people read lec's post properly? Sometimes the horse is OK and other times it is not - anyone with an ounce of horsesense would realise that this is probably not a case of human handling ruining an otherwise good horse, if that were the case the horse would ALWAYS react violently - this horse sounds as though it does indeed have a brain tumour or something of that ilk, in which case the responsible thing to do is have it humanely PTS.

As for not realising that the chain referred to was a stallion change.................well says it all really

I'm sorry, didn't realise I'd asked you to be my friend?!
Shame we can't all be blessed with the infinate knowledge you obviously possess - I thought this post had been made on an open forum for all to comment on? My mistake...

If I had the land I'd have him myself and at least give him the chance, with decent humane treatment, to turn around.
Posts like this sicken and sadden me - as someone else said all horses are a product of what the human has done to them - what a sorry situation for this poor creature to be in.
I'm shocked and upset by some of the repsonses to this post.
If the horse is found to have a brain tumor or something then fair enough it should be PTS but otherwise...I'm not convinced.

[/ QUOTE ]

The trouble is, often brain tumours etc are very hard to diagnose until the horse has quite literally flipped and killed someone...bit late then
frown.gif
As someone who has ridden a horse later diagnosed with a brain tumour, the onset is quite insidious...but their reactions are incredibly unpredictable...don't even think about keeping one.

I put it to you that you have never really walked through treacle, are merely pretending to have experience with treacle, and therefore can't possibly know what it feels like, nor make a scientifically accurate comparison.

Some people need to get a serious grip on reality!!
Ever seen a pic of a tb stallion on its stud card?? Whats in its mouth......?!!
If I have a bad loader to deal with and its a choice between it rearing up and ripping my hand to shreds and it needing a little bit of extra force, I know what I'd choose!!

No-one here bar Lec knows the horse. Lec is not, in fact, a horse beater- I'm sure she loves her horse just as much as you love yours!! She knows enough about horses to know that this one is beyond the norm.

As for diagnosing brain tumours. Most vets say shoot it, open its skull up and that'll tell you if it has a tumour or not.

Jeez! Sorry folks for not realising it was a stallion chain! I have honestly never come across one in 20 yrs round horses - we've never had stallions or anything requiring that sort of treatment, what else am I supposed to say, sorry for not knowing everything about horses?!
As I said if the horse is ill then it should be PTS. I know how some of these professional yards treat the horses (and I'm not saying all before anyone jumps up & down) and if it's not a physical problem maybe some one on one treatment might help?!
Has it even been tried? I don't remember reading that it has but I must admit I've skimmed a bit!

QR...

SERIOUSLY, I am almost speechless at this thread, having just re-read the whole thing... HORSES ARE BIGGER THAN PEOPLE, HORSES ARE HEAVIER THAN PEOPLE, HORSES ARE QUIRKY BY NATURE, HORSES ARE NOT ALWAYS PREDICTIBLE, HORSE DO, CAN AND WILL CONTINUE TO KILL PEOPLE...

To ALL of those people who have said "awww poor ickle pony has been misjudged and needs a break" - go ask you parents/OH if they would be happy to have you around this horse - ask them if they would be happy to scrap you up off the ground when you have been decked/dragged/injured/maimed/killed...

Sheesh - since when is a horse EVER worth getting injured or killed over?!

I don't think that it was ever in doubt about how much Lec loves her horses?!
I just feel sorry for the poor thing to be written off, for whatever reason, at such a young age.
Anyway, as ever on this forum I find myself asking why I'm even bothering trying to justify any comments I've made, you only have to make 1 mistake and you're shouted down - regardless of how much experience you have or otherwise.
I don't agree with the majority so I'm brow beaten - well I'm off to look at some of the other posts, I'll leave this one to those of you who agree with one another and have more experience of putting horses to sleep that are too difficult to turn around.
This was not a dig at you Bossanova - just thought I'd stick it all on 1 post!

This makes me question I don't know why, if you have read the whole of this post.
Surely it should be enough for you to know that various people, professional people, far more experienced than you, me and all the other Bob the Dogs on this forum, have all tried with this horse already and it's unpredictability with its temperament renders this horse dangerous to handlers. Surely that doesn't need to be spelt out again, that with that situation, the owners are facing up to their responsibilities and doing the right thing, not only for anyone handling it but for the horse too. If you don't value a human life/health, then I suppose yes, it will be hard to sink in and swallow that this youngish horse needs to go to Potters, but the professional horsemen on here are facing up to reality; we don't put something down for the hell of it you know.

Another slant : Maybe some life time of experience amateurs have the patience and time that some professionals lack ?
