Who feeds dry hay?

The only time I wet mine is going hunting, the haynet goes in a strong bin bag with a kettle of boiling water (just the water, not the kettle!) and the top is tied up. Then after hunting she has yummy damp hay to munch on the way home.

Mine are out 24/7 so they have it dry as neither has a problem with it. If they were in I'd soak it, just because that's how I do it.

My old mare had respiratory issues and I had a hell of a time trying to soak it during winter with no facilities!

Steamed hay for old pony with COPD. Dry hay on floor for young fit one with no (*touches wood,*) bad results. Don't like soaking haynets, or giving them, especially when they sit in old water which is already an evil dark brown . . They are heavy, leak all over me, the horse's bed etc. prefer steaming.

Dry hay here too! Two coblets getting through a bale a day in four hay nets. I would only soak the hay if they had respiratory problems or the hay was very dusty.

Dry unless it's a bit dusty then i'll rinse it off for b1&2 who are a bit breathy. I store it outside though so it stays fairly dust free.

At my old yard they would all soak the hay in the same really dark horrible looking water, surely that's not a good thing is it?

I always fed it dry to my late mare, but new young mare was getting a bit snotty, the hay is often much too dusty to feed straight, if the hay was good quality and not dusty I would not worry about soaking but I rarely get a good bale so it seems...think its these blasted wet summers!
I like to give the hay a good but quick soak just to take away the dust spores basically

I'm still using 2011 hay and feeding it dry, one of my mares gets a cough a certain times of the year so I soak it for 15mins then but during the winter she doesn't cough so I don't soak

Dry & on the floor. We've used more hay this year & cut less, so by spring will be using what's left of the year before's, which will prob be dusty. However instead of soaking, will just put it in the cattle feeder on rainy days in the field, that should be enough.

Dry on the floor or in haynets, fed it soaked to other pony when he needed to lose weight, was such a faff especially in winter that I wouldn't soak it unless needed. Do dampen it with a hose if a bit dusty but 99% of the time its fine as good quality stuff.

The only reason I use elim - in - nets rather than feeding from the floor (much more natural) is because Shy has a special mechanism in his jaw that allows him to unclip it, and thus stuff three times more hay in at a time. He denies it of course, but it has been proven beyond doubt by my YO.

Dry in haynet in winter, soaked in haynet in summer. I do worry in winter though about the dust off the odd bale of hay though most so far this year seems to be OK.

Dry. Can't do much else in our temperature. It would be a nightmare if I had to. I would steam not soak.
