After seeing it mentioned in a thread the other day, it does look a good dry feed.

Opinions....is it worth the cost?

Blimey thats pricey!!

Is there a reason why you want to go cereal free as this does seem a very expensive way to feed meat and veg if theres no need???

We're still having the issue of him either being very firm with his poops or doing "pudding" poohs which are quite loose. He had "explosive" diarrhoea on a different "flavour" of JWB.

He's not getting anything else alongside his food to rule out it being a bone or a chew that's causing it.

Vet thinks it might be the feed not suiting him, as he has been wormed twice, two weeks apart by them. Problem is, the high end feeds like JWB, Burns, Chudleys etc are all much of a muchness in terms of ingredients.

I don't really fancy the idea of having to think ahead to cook up meat/veg for him etc and I'd probably find that quite pricey in some ways too. Plus...my main concern is that as a puppy he needs certain vitamins/minerals, even more so than an adult dog, that I might not get into him if I feed a natural diet myself. I don't want to jeopardise his growth/development.

I thought it might be worth a go to see how he does on it? The reviews look promising. I know it's expensive, but working out how long a sack would last, it's not that expensive in the grand scheme of things. 2kg bag of JWB is costing me locally £7.25. I would just like to find somewhere that stocks it without having to add postage to the price.

I'm torn. On the one hand I don't want to be suckered in to buy something expensive that's not needed, but on the other hand....I did like the blurb!

I feed James Wellbeloved too.

Can I ask why you're thinking of giving it a go?

Is it Lizziebell?

Who me........?????

Yes, I feed Orijen. Very happy with it, and usually get it online at Petplanet as often works out cheaper as they do free delivery on orders over £29 (I have to order special cat food too, so its good to get it all from the same place).

As my dogs are so small its not really an expensive option. They only have it as thier evening feed as they have raw chicken wings for breakfast.

We feed Orijen too and have for about 8 months now.
It is expensive, a bag costs us £42 and lasts our 2 GWPs about 18-20 days. I have to say they do look very well on it, bright eyed, shiny coats and full of energy but I do find because they get such a small volume they both look for food all the time. This is unusual for the older one as she has never been a good eater. I am trying giving them some veg with it to see if it fills them up a bit better.
I was warned that you have to be very careful changing them back to a more carbohydrate diet and re introduce it slowly but we are keeping ours on the Orijen for now.

You might think they are all very similar, but it's worth trying different things.

Otto was horrific on Chudleys, wouldn't touch it and went through cycles of upset tums. Skinners D&R he goes nuts for down and it agrees with him brilliantly, yet the S&R he isn't too fussed about and it upsets his tum.

Hasn't JWB been taken over by Pedigree and gone downhill since then?

Thanks for that info Henny. Good points.

I guess my theory is that I have no idea what to try next, so I figured I might as well try something "outside" of the box...so to speak.

Not sure about the comments on dogs looking for food all the time as you feed less quantity of Orijen. Not sure having a dog that will be more prone to bin raids if they feel unsatisfied will help with the digestive system.

I don't mind the expense, if it's worth it, but I don't want to be reeled in by "spiel".

I tried to make an order with them last night, but they said there was a two week wait for the Orijen puppy. Is that a normal time scale for delivery?

Obviously, you are keen to feed raw in the morning, but could you see Orijen working as the sole product of a dog's diet?

We feed it to our 2 JRTx and its great. One of ours has a very sensitive tummy/skin allergy and can be a bit particular about what he eats and he loves it. Since he has been on it we have nad no 'splats !'. Although it may look expensive it lasts along time and we would not feed anything else now.

Thank you.

Seems those that take the leap, do like it.

I ordered it from zooplus, who also do free delivery on orders over £29, and it's already been despatched.

Bearing this in mind, is it ok to move them from James Wellbeloved to this slowly? I was thinking of making the move over 4 or 5 days.

I don't normally have a problem with PetPlanet, and usually get it delivered within a couple of days - I guess they are just out of stock. I tend to use PetPlanet as 2 of our cats are on special diets, so makes sense to get it all from one place and they do seem comparable on prices. Will have to take a look at Zooplus too.

I can't see why Orijen wouldn't work as a sole product. I only feed it in the evening as like you I really don't have time for a home-made diet. The chicken wings for breakfast are given whole so thats easy enough.
