I have tried searching, but since "pro" is too short, I get every thread with the word "hoof" in it - which is most threads!

I am after a general purpose supplement to feed my stressy OTTB mare and my good doer colt (Suregrow is making him fat!) I have seen Pro hoof on ebay and like the fact that it has more magnesium in it (for stressy mare) and more zinc and copper to balance the grazing as my colt is out 24/7.

But it worries me that it is from ebay - surely it could just be a bag of dust and unless anyone had it tested we'd all be none the wiser???

Who uses it and have you noticed a difference since using it? And has anyone ever used it and stopped for any reason? It is fairly expensive and I don't want to pay out for a bag of dust if there is better out there!

I feed this... I don't think it's dust! :p My horse's coat is shinier, and his white line is tighter. Hoof quality, although good before, has also improved. I think, short of having your forage analysed and supplementing accordingly, this is one of the best supplements available which addresses mineral imbalances in typical UK grazing.

LOL! I don't think it is dust.
This is the website of the person who sells it in case it gives you a bit more confidence.

I think it is one of the two supplements at the top of most barefoot people's list (unless they have the facitilites to go for mineral testing).

Those supplements are pro hoof and equimins meta balance. I suspect they are probably about equal. I use meta balance but if that was not available I would use pro hoof. I have seen a lot of positive results from using meta balance on one horse and have extended it's use to three so it must be working for me. I would have expected exactly the same results from pro hoof.

Don't be put off by the fact that barefoot people are recomending it. That is simply because we need to put the best feet possible on unshod horses so, unless we are able to mineral balance, we have to use the best supplements. :D

I would not be put off by ebay. This person has a very good reputation.

I don't use this supplement because I mineral balance BUT I buy other things from this seller and they are excellent - fast service and always a nice little surprise in the package too :D They are barefoot trimmers.

I am still debating between this and equiminns and can't decide!

Not so much for feet but sort of in the hope it might boost Nitty's pathetic immune system up a bit!

I went barefoot in october and was recommend this, he had good feet before all I can say is that they are still very good, he's feet have grown alot, no nail hole. The hoofs havnt spilt or chipped.

The sellers have been trimming my horses for four years. I can 100% guarantee the validity of them and their product. They spent a long time creating it with other experts and did so in order to address the short fall in the other mineral supplements out there. It's not a money making thing. They are passionate about horses, hooves and diet (well, geeky actually

).

It is expensive, only because they have it mixed professionally with a company and they aren't a massive corporation that can absorb the costs of that easily.

Hope this reassures you :)

I'm going to order this next week as it has been recommended by a few on here... And tweak diet a bit... And try a different farrier who hasn't got the "He's just a TB with bad feet so suck it up" approach...

I have the intention (Hmmm...here's hoping) of keeping a photographic diary of how the boy's hooves do over time...

He lost another shoe today - 2nd in four weeks so I'm hoping to see some positive results over time with the changes...

:)

I use pro hoof - I like it as it has the highest concentration of ingredients out of the hoof supplement I looked at. A tiny amount of wheatfeed to make the product fit in a scoop is the only 'filler' in it, and there are no weird things like bitter orange peel or white mineral oil like you find in the rest of em.

Hooves are looking fabulous - farrier is getting confused why I had him out to two of them cos theres so little to do theyre self maintaining now!

Can you feed pro hoof or pro balance + with any type of feed without overloading on vits/ minerals. I am currently feeding pure condition, purabeet and lucie nuts. Eventually once this has used up I will be just on pure condition and linseed possible.
For an underweight windsucking ex racer.

I have recently moved yards and my new barefoot trimmer is the guy that sells the supplements on eBay so I can vouch for the fact that he's real and does exist. To be honest I haven't noticed a difference since feeding it BUT my horse was already on mag ox and had fabulous feet so not sure what I would notice but I'm hoping its doing good things for his insides!

How much pure condition are you feeding?

Is there a big difference between this and NAF's Pro Feet do you think ?

Yes! NAF's product is full of fillers and has inferior levels of the key minerals. I'd go for Pro Hoof every time :).

I have been advised to feed 2.5kg a day and add pure condition pellets if hes not gaining weight (haven't been advised how much) however I may just feed linseed instead.

Currently hes on pure condition building up to 2.kg he only started it Saturday. Along with lucie nuts/purabeet and some greengold until I have used up all his simple systems.

Long term goal would be to have him on Pure condition and if needed possible linseed and pro hoof/ por balance +?

Having a look at the Pure Feeds specs, I think Pro Hoof would be ok fed with 2kg of Pure Condition. If you feed much more than this I'd maybe feed 1/2 rations of the Pro Hoof, as you need to keep an eye on selenium intake. If you're worried then just feed half a scoop of the Pro Hoof and see how it goes. It depends on the mineral profile of your forage as well, of course.

I currently feed my lad a scoop of happy hoof and a scoop of formula for feet. He went bare foot about 6 months ago and his feet are great.

...but am thinking of swapping the formula for feet with this pro hoof.

How long does a 1.8kg bad on ebay last with 1 scoop a day?

Also, can I feed pro hoof with happy hoof?

Thanks :)

You can feed those two together (*whispers* I'm not a fan of happy hoof, though). 1.8kg of Pro Hoof lasts a month, fed at the full rate.

Okay, does anyone know the recommended levels or vit/mins that should be fed?

http://nrc88.nas.edu/nrh/ This is a good site, if a little fiddly. It's pretty difficult to tell what levels your horse is recieving from its forage, however!

One word of caution one of my Horses will not entertain eating it at all have another on it he's growing lots of foot ( but was before as well ).
I have an other horse on Farriers Formula that's showing dramatic changes.

I feed the Pro balance and I can not recommend it highly enough. My mares feet are AMAZING after 6 months on this. I will shovel it down her neck forever more! :)

I feed pro-hoof and think it is good. I can see changes in my mares feet.

I think the customer service is absolutely fantastic, it is reasonably priced and I like that it is no frills - you get all the stuff you want and no unnecessary extras.

I was feeding pure condition but have dropped it as I saw no point in feeding a "complete feed" and then buying a complete balanced suppliment. I was feeding pure condition with speedibeet to my stressy poor doer, now she gets speedibeet with pro-hoof, micronised linseed and salt and is holding condition well.

I can't recommend pro-hoof enough, it has more of everything useful in it than most other products and is very reasonably priced. The sellers are great too, I was worried about buying from ebay but the service was excellent. I had a problem with the delivery and the seller was brilliant about communicating with me, tracking down the parcel and then sending a new one rather than waiting for the original to find its way back and be resent. They even put a free gift in as an apology. They are reasonably priced for other things too so I will use them for any suppliments I need now (apart from linseed which I get from Charnwood).

Jess - I feed this to Hercs.
Absolutely brilliant stuff. I would highly recommend. So far it is the only supplement to actually make a positive difference to him.

My mare doesn't like the taste of it. I have to feed two - three scoops of spearmeint before she'll eat it. Havng said that, she looks amazing on it.

I use the pro balance in my three and my farrier has commented on how good their tootsies are looking after four months on it. It isn't that expensive and lasts my lot at least a month if not more.
