A friend of mine has the most fantastic, fabulous horse ever. She is perfect, not only is she stunning, a top dressage horse that seems to win everything -she is also so loving that she's like a dog. I'm talking:
whinnying when she sees you
licking your ears
burying her head in your hair and breathing you in
snuggling up with her head into your neck
she just loves people's faces and smells, esp new people
she is so gentle, none of this moving head suddenly and hitting you

In contrast, my mare shows none of this. I'm REALLY jealous and feel massively hard doneby:o:D
 
I too have a loving mare, but we are rubbish at dressage.
In addition to the above she wees into a bucket on request!!
She is only really this affectionate to me, but will tolerate other humans if they feed her.
When ridden she will not do anything for anybody else, just stands there dead to the leg!!!!
Impossible horse to ever sell..
 
Puzzle is like this. Only with me though, although she is still affectionate to others. She's 17months and was at a WHW centre before me, so think I'm probably the first person who is all hers.
 
Me. When Mum died in an accident and I was near crazy with grief, he used to stand with his muzzle over my heart, like he knew where it hurt. The bond we have is the strongest I've had with any horse - sounds silly, but I can actually 'feel' his thoughts..:o
 
My gelding is certainly no dressage star, in fact he was recently diagnosed with some degenerative bone problems, which made me decide to retire him from ridden life. Since being retired, he has turned into the most soppy, delightful 'little' man. When I turn him out in the morning, he'd rather stand and nuzzle me, as opposed to going off to find his friends. When he see's me walking down the barn in the evening after work, his little face lights up, and he adores his daily scratches and being groomed. It's lovely because he's a 17.2 ex racehorse, and I don't think he'd ever had much one to one attention before.
 
The horse I ride is incredibly affectionate, I love it! He loves hugs and giving kisses, burys himself in your hair, rests his head on your shoulder to get hugs etc He even kisses the dogs! Other horses tend not to like him too much though as he over steps the boundaries of personal space!! Lol :D
 
Mysti is, she shoves her head under my arm so i hug her, licks constantly, nuzzles and snuggles into you, whinneys and comes galloping up to you, its so sweet!

But Honey is Miss independant :rolleyes:
 
we don't have a loving horse , we have a busybody - he'll come and stand and just get in the way when doing up the others rugs - then he follows you when poo picking - he's always at the gate when you arrive and whinnys and nod his head then he won't move until you leave :)
 
my Haffie mare is. Maybe because she was 3 and unbroken when I got her, and she was still with her Mum. She is always chattering on at you, and will nuzzle the back of your neck for hours, but never nips. She races over the field to see you and adores people generally.

My gelding on the other hand is just a bit of a blank page! He's sweet and funny but when you look in his eyes you dont see that spark of connection with what they are thinking.

Although both are great to ride, tho gelding is semi retired, the connection and affection from my girlie makes her my horse of a lifetime. And to think I thought mares were all awful stroppy baggages before I got her!!!
 
I'm glad its not just me :( my boy is so loving he puts his nose inside my coat and breathes deeply then just stands there :) he will rub his teeth on the back of my hand without a hint of a bite. I do of course have to share my mug of tea ;) but thats what friends are for. If any of my non horsey friends saw this :eek: they would run for good :D

Yes, I have a couple, my mares in particular seem to be very affectionate. I wandered through Katy's paddock 3 times today and she whickered to me and wouldn't leave me alone every time, wanted lots of cuddles and fuss. Pocket full of polos might have had something to do with it too, though...
I've had a few horses like the OP's friend's, which I could easily have had in the house with me, they were so devoted and so careful around people.

Remember this filly?

She may have been starved but she's obviously never been abused in any other way, she's so affectionate and loving. When she sees me in the field she'll leave the rest of the herd and hurtle in my direction and practically throw herself onto my lap (hmm must work on a bit of 'your space, my space' with her!). I know it's not food related, she doesn't get treats and she's not trying to mug me. And not only does she follow me everywhere, she CHATS! She sort of burbles on and on...she's absolutely hilarious. None of my other horses have ever come close, in all the years I've had them, to the affinity we seem to have.
 
My first pony was the most loving pony ever. He would squeal and whinny and call to me everytime he saw me, gallop up to me and just wanted to be fuseed all the time. He was happiest when i was practicing plaiting, trimming, grooming and just sat on the fence of his paddock chatting to him about my day. He would stand there with his head on my lap listening to every word. I miss him soooo much. The amount of times mum had to come and wake me up from his stable in the winter because i had cuddled up to him when he was lying down in his stable and had fallen asleep on him!

My mare i have now isnt really a cuddly horse which is a real shame, she is the most amazing horse...but keeps herself to herself...although funnily enough she soon becomes cuddly and loving and i become the best person in the world when i have a carrot in my pocket!!! :-D

I'm lovin' the sound of this one. I think my youngster may be one of these in the making :D
 
No.....my mare seems very aloof and when I first got her I had a few issues that I felt she only ever tolerated me and it hurt a bit. There is definitely an element of cupboard love when she knows I am going to feed her (waiting for me / Whickering etc) or have treats in my pockets.

She isnt openly affectionate or demonstrative (even with other horses!) and can be quite nervous at times. But I started to notice little ways that she does actually quite 'like' me - she is always very sweet after a hack like we have shared an experience together. She has waited for me when I have fallen off and at shows she actively looks for me when I leave her and whinnies when I come back. I always feel most bonded with her after we have done something together. She also seems to be visibly reassured if I am calm and patient with her in stressful situations i.e she actually listens to me.

She was the most 'affectionate' I have ever seen her i.e leaning into a cuddle after I came back from a 2 week holiday. She also knew and stood very close to me and quiet next to me when I was very upset once. So she isnt openly 'loving' ( I am not sure horses would feel love as an emotion) but we definitely have that bond which goes beyond anything else I have ever had with a horse - most have been based on food and disappear if something stresses them - more like I was amusing if I had food but a bit useless otherwise. I feel my little mare respects and trusts me and likes being in my company - I am happy with that.
 
My TB is very affectionate & loving.
She'll lick you to death, whinnys when i go to the field, loves snuggling & breaths into you.
My Welsh X TB is just the opposite, she'll whinny when you go to the field wanting her food & telling me to hurry up.
She just loves being left to her own devices.

Not at all, which I really struggled with when I first had her. My old horse Lacey was always please to see me, loved being groomed and cuddled. Unfortunately she had to be PTS. I then got Connie who is completely the other end of the spectrum! She never neighs, whinnies, she hates me brushing her, she gets crabby and tries to nip me!! Cow bag! I still love her to bits, but I do miss a bit of lovin!!!
 
My gelding is really affectionate. He licks and nuzzles into you all the time. He always trots over in the field to see you and always stays pretty close to you. He is very sweet and even thought he's quite 'touchy' and always wants to be around you he is very polite and doesn't push/pull/barge at you.
 
I wouldn't say my horse was 'loving' as such but he too is very nosey and also I'd say very trusting. He knows his name and, when we got him as a 4 year old he used to hurtle towards you whenever you arrived or called him. He knows by how you say his name if you've got food for him and he likes to stand and 'chat' if you meet anyone out hacking etc. He whickers a lot and neighs if you shout his name. I think all in all he just likes people and has never been mistreated in his life. However, this may be part of the reason he also has no respect for people on the ground really and can have a tendency to walk through you! Still, because he's so well behaved in most other ways he sort of ends up getting away with it - that is his only 'vice'.

Oh, he does like to have raspberries blown on the side of his muzzle though, he's always loved that!
 
My two boys are both like this. Nuzzling your pockets, biting your wellies, licking your face, following you everywhere... and they love being cuddled! :)
 
Me! Soppy creature would rather lay his head on my shoulder than anything else! He loves putting his chin on the shelf of the gallery so he join in conversations!
 
My 7 month old filly is very loving. Doesn't get fed so it's genuine wanting to be with me :) Always the first to wander over for a snuffle in my hair and loves a little kiss on her nose. She is so gentle and sweet. Her Mum is far too untrusting sadly the damage has been done prior to me. But she is getting there :) I have once managed to kiss her nose - after I gave her a whole body rub / scratch and sent her into soppy mode ;)

Little gelding quite fond of nose kissing too :) and follows me poo picking and again a member of the nosey parker club ;)
 
My Arab is one of the most affectionate horses I've come across. He's very cuddly and just seems to want to be everybody's friend. He follows you round the stable sniffing your hair and the YM said to me today she can't walk by his stable without him stretching his neck right out just to touch her arm - just to sort of say "hi".

It might be his age as he's only a four year old still in a pretty strange place but I don't think so and I hope not, because its so nice to have a horse that really seems to like you for more than its food, lol. :D
 
meeeeeee!! EVERY single time he sees me he whinnys.. its so cute, sometimes it makes him seem really dopey because i may have seen him 2 minutes ago, gone to get tack or something, then when he sees me again he has to whinny... but im not complaining... so cute!!! And hes cirtainly not dopey :p And hes the most affectionate horse ever... love him to absoloute peices :D

I do! I paid my deposit when she still had a foal at foot and was a grumpy baggage. The foal is weaned now and shes home and a complete doll. Shes even converted my sister to ponies :D Shes just such a lovely person, a total joy to be around. We call her the barbie pony as shes like a toy pony come to life.

I also have her yearling son and hes the same, a real people pony. Nothing beats pulling up at the field and shouting "pooonieeeees!" only to have them all come cantering over whinnying :D I used to get my kicks competing, now I get them by spending 20 minutes in a mutual grooming session! In fact all of ours are nice people. I dont ride competitively any more, so lifes too short not to have horses that dont make my heart sing.

I'm so impressed by weeing into bucket!! Need to work on that one with my boy
