Who has a solution saddle

No, but I constantly assess and adjust depending on time of year/condition/workload/who is riding. They don't always suit novice riders who need more "help" from the saddle, but they usually benefit the horse. They're not a cure-all though.

I'm hoping it will be easy for me since my horse is micro managed to be in the same condition and workload all year round.

What saddles do you have?

I still prefer the originals, so I have a Freestyle a GP and a Jumper, sizes 4 and 5, because for the larger horses I prefer the 5 and I can tweak it to be snugger for me. I never really got on with the Energist, I found it too flat. I've ridden in SMART saddles since they were launched, but my favourite would still be the Jumper out of all of them.

I've been filling this thread with interest and have decided to buy smart gp saddle. Didn't want brown really but demo is £400 less so it's a no brainer really. I can't get over how different my horse goes! He has so much power from behind and its amazing!!

Stupid question time... Was going to start a new thread but it is kind of about Solution saddles so...

Loan horse has a Solution dressage saddle (I commented further up this thread). It was originally bought for owner's other horse, and is used with a Wintec dressage girth. This is very smooth, and gets very slimy and slippy when he sweats. He is also very fat.
I have problems with saddle slippage when I get on - and this is from a high mounting block, where the block is as high as my stirrup! I do get people to hold the other stirrup when I can, but it's not possible every time.
I end up having to loosen the girth whilst on, hoist it back into the correct position, and then tighten the girth again. It's a pain in the butt and I spend my entire ride paranoid that I'm slipping (even though once sorted, it doesn't happen again).

Doing some googling about this problem, I have found Flexi girths do a non-slip dressage/treeless girth - but current Wintec girth is 36", and Flexi only go up 32". However, the 36" girth is on one down from the top hole of the girth straps; so if I tried a Flexi at 32", surely that would just come down to a lower hole on the girth straps? Is it worth trying one, you reckon?

Or, any other anti-slippage ideas?

If mounting block is as high as your stirrup can you not hop on without putting your foot in the stirrup?

also make sure girth is done tight enough, you need to do a bit tighter with the solution saddles than normal saddles.

Professional choice do a dressage girth which people often recommend for its non-slip qualities - I think it's neoprene. I tried one ages ago when I was using a heather moffett saddle and it definitely worked but unfortunately her ladyship decided she didn't like it so had to get rid!

Just looked at Professionals Choice and theirs only seem to go up to 32" as well, and are twice the price of Flexi girths...

Yes could try just not putting my foot in the stirrup, and hope he doesn't decide to walk off whilst I'm mid air haha!

How about a neoprene girth sleeve? Reckon this might do the trick? It would be a lot cheaper... Let's not forget, this is a part loan horse, not my own, so I can't be spending a fortune (and haven't got the money to even if I wanted to!).

She always has someone to hold her other stirrup - and she barely ever rides anyway.

Yeah think i'll try the neoprene sleeve first then. Can always flog it if it doesn't have the desired effect :)

The pro choice girth is unlike any I've used before and I really like it for my horse. I still don't mount from the stirrup however. I have a high block and put my leg over. Train him to stand still and you'll be fine. If someone is getting on from a lower block I hold the other stirrup. I have mounted from a lower block a couple of times and it hasn't slipped but when I first got it I did have it move slightly when I used the stirrup.

If you join the unofficial solution saddle FB group you will probably get a girth second hand. I got an as new one for almost half price.
