The BGL speciality is to piaffe and passage down main street - likes having an audience......

I would happily arrange a HHO ride on the toll - loads of different options so it wouldn't get to chaotic!!

Sounds good, just one problem for me as i ride a friends horse and it's not good at loading
mad.gif
so would have to clear it with them. shouldnt be too big a problem. My horses are retired (typical)

would be nice to have a long hack and NO traffic lol Bliss

WE are lucky enuf to live in the Cotswolds and the farm i live on is about 1000 acres of grass as are the next door neighbours farms - it is major Heythrop country and i never ever take it for granted as we never have to go on a road unless you want to .

Ours is pretty good: several woods with well-maintained tracks through them. Each of the woods is big enough to keep you busy for an hour or two, but to get from one to the other can require road crossings. There are also some big fields that are fab for a gallop. The beach is 20 mins away by trailer.

sounds very nice i realy must get the property back on the market and get moved, it's no good here, and i miss having long trouble free hacks, if i lived where i could hack like that i'd concider getting another horse. (as i said mine are both retired)

C - you're putting me off moving to The Flat Lands!

Still looking at moving to Wales
smile.gif
Must check out the hacking! We'd have our own land, but defiantely need good hacking as we get bored silly riding round in circles all the time
grin.gif
.

I'v looked into moving to scotland but the prices are about the same as down here. well you can still pick up some that need work if you want it ,so now got some details of propertys on the western Islands and theres some lovely ones there (just not brave enough to take that big a step yet) Looked at wales a couple of years ago and it looked lovely (well it looked lovely here until i got to live here) lol where abouts in wales are you looking

Can't be doing with the buying process in Scotland. Eek!

We started off looking at south Wales (nearish to the M4), but a friend of a friend mooted one in north west Wales, so that's now in the mix! My Father is Welsh so we'd be going back to our roots

A friend has a house out Suffolk way (near the coast) and we're debating buying that - a lot to think of though on both sides

.

We'd stay round here, but I'm not paying three-quarters of a million for a house with five acres. Barking mad.

ooo.gif
Don't let me put you off moving to Lincolnshire it does have some very nice places and i'm sure in some parts there must be some good hacking i just think it would take a lot of home work to find the right places (something i didnt do
tongue.gif
)

Where abouts? i lived in Copsom street for a while in Ibstock and i worked at Heather lodge (I think its closed now) must admit when i think back we had some nice rides there

Well it all sounds wonderful (not for me though) and i'm very very jealous of you all, but poo picking calls so i must sign out for now, thankyou all for the chat, Carosel (I know it hasnt got the "U" in it but that spelling of it was taken) lol bye all

The hacking where i used to live was great, off-road, bridleways, farmers didnt mind you on harvested fields. That was over Debenham Suffolk.

Now though i have to either ride on the road... or Pay £160 to ride on this off road riding thing, where the farmers leave a small edge on certain fields. Extorianate (sp?) amount of money really!!

So am a bit upset about the hacking now, and would never touch a field round here that was harvested!! Im now just outside woodbridge suffolk.

Can we do a poll on who has the worst??

We have no off road hacking anywhere on the islands
frown.gif
and have no choice but to ride on the roads. Thankfully they're pretty quiet though.

On the plus side- we have some fantastic empty beaches
smile.gif

I am in North Hertfordshire and we have some amazing hacking. Did a 3 hour circular ride a few weeks ago and only did about 50 yards of road work on the entire ride. This is pretty amazing when you consider we are only 20 miles away from London.

Your all wrong, the best place is lower kingswood, at the top of reigate hill surrey.miles and miles of bridlepaths, common land ,heaths,a few roads to cross, but no actual roadwork, good ground, nice scenery. And only 15 miles from central london!

PS we even used to have a Puma too(no need to go to scotland looking for one)

CORNWALL!
Where I kept my horses for 3 years was a 15 min hack to 1 beach and half hour to another! Loads of off road tramways and woods, Im back on my old turf again now in Gwennap pit and even though theres no beaches for about 5 miles Im happier than ever!
If I go out my gate and cross over to a lane Im on Carn Marth, you can literally see for miles all round!
Once you've had a wicked blast up the long track you can let the horses walk about in the quarry and have a drink!
Im lucky to be able to rent 10 acres of lovely grazing in such a stunning part of the country!

Sorry, but where I used to live trumps you ALL my hacking area was called THE ANDES! Acreage = Massive.
=)-

A 6-day-return ride to the Argentinean border was the longest we ever did. The werid thing was while you could ride for days and see no one & nothing some days you would come round the corner of an apparently deserted valley and run into a random group of people... i.e. policemen on a training hike....

There were trails to the north and south (I was in Chile) and if you packed food etc you could ride for a month or more in either direction and only have to cross 2/3 mining roads, and not run out of room. Chile is very long...
Photo from one of my favorite rides, a bit hazy but you get a sense of the space. Black mare = Baby (aka Cocktel) who used to follow loose for exercise, wasn't broken in yet, and riding Sahira.

I currently live on the outskirts of Sydney, Australia. I suppose we have fairly decent hacking alot of roadwork, but the roads are quiet and some grass verges. A few fire trails which are a bit stoney, and a PC grounds only 20 min away. Compared to what I am used to it seems so limited!
