The general rule in my house is it doesn't get put on until the end of October, however this year, I am really cold! So its more than likely going to be on very low from this week some time. Who else is already using their heating? x

I have !

I was trying to hold out for as long as possible, but was sitting in the house with several layers on and STILL feeling very cold. Even the dog was shivering ! Lit the coal fire on Tuesday and have kept it burning ever since. :D
The sun is out today, but it's NOT that warm here. Brrrrrrrrrrr...

Not on here yet but we have storage heaters so try not to have them on more than a couple of months a year as they are expensive to run so we try to get through to Dec if we can

The chimney is being swept next week though so we can light the fire if it gets too bad but we have only just put the duvet back on the bed after summer so it will be a few weeks before we feel the cold yet

Am battling with myself over whether to switch it on or not. One part of me says no way until October as this when I normally do it. The other half of me is almost begging for it to go on.

Glad to hear others are in the same dilemma and it's not a sign of me gettign older and softer :D

It's cold here and we have no boiler because it broke down in May and we need a new one and I got side tracked renovating the stables then it was freezing in the house last week .
Next weeks job track down a new boiler and a man to fit it.

Nope - far too early and price of heating oil due to come down in October so will wait a bit longer!

Fleece blankets on the sofa and layers in my house

My mum hates me putting it on so early and tells me to get a jumper or a blanket.. Little does she know I whack it on full blast when she's at work and I've got a day off .. :p

No way yet !! OH is away but I know he will make noises as soon as he is back. We still have the windows and doors open at night so shutting them is the first begrudging step towards autumn !!

Really - hadn't heard that, hope you're right!

We've had ours on a couple of times over the summer even! Nothing worse than when you and the dogs come in wet!

I finally finished my giant Jenga game - had a transit van full of firewood dropped outside the old pony stables, which I have spent the last three afternoons barrowing in to one of the stables. Last night we had our first real fire of the autumn, which was bliss. Now we're all sorted the sun has come out and its glorious today! We did have the first condensation inside the rooms that don't have heating yet though last night, so it must have been cool...

Heating oil coming down.... Really?
The company I work for sell heating oil and we get a faxed price list everyday as the prices change daily. We are unaware of any price cuts as yet

Wet dog sat shivering by fire,so I lit it and wow it's so cosy in here now, just need to get rid if the wet doggy smell, cos he helped me wash out 2 smelly stables today!!

Ours is on a thermostat that we don't generally touch - so if it's cold, it comes on! It has been on quite a few mornings recently!

Has been absolutely beautiful here today (Kent) - but I think that's supposed to be the end of it now :(

Still have an air conditioner on in the bedroom, however!! (something to do with my age, I think!! ;) )

I'm so old, I grew up without central heating. Coal fire in living room only, hot-water bottles in bed, frost on INSIDE of windows in winter. How did we survive? Weirdly, I don't remember feeling cold. Maybe we just became hardened to it.
Now I am freezing, want to turn heating on. But the bills scare me, so shivering in front of lap-top instead.

Not yet OH has t shirt on and window open! I have 2 jumpers on!
Yes - what is it about men not feeling the cold? My OH is the same, I just get rather pitying looks if I say I am cold, as if I am a wimp. It's that sort of weather that is okay while you are 'doing' but when you sit down it's a bit chilly. Fire on, heating not yet, trying to save the oil as much as poss!

No, BUT the log burner is on in the kitchen so we are huddled in there....bliss! We spend hours in here.

OH is planning to put a log burner in the front room too, in the next 346 years or so.....:D
