Who here resides (horsewise) on a LARGE livery yard?!

There is about 30 liveries on our yard. It is alright although I do find it to be a bit cliquey at times. The facilities are fantastic though, and my horses are happy there. It is never too busy either either and as it is an 'adults only' yard there aren't children running around everywhere. :)

Much prefer the bigger yards - I was on a yard of 80 liveries and it was fab. Nobody remembers your name except for the few people in the stables near you, so you still get to be friendly without all the cliques/interferers you may get on a smaller yard.

I'm on a much smaller yard now, and if my horse happens to do anything I can pretty much guarantee the whole yard will know and have discussed it before I've even found out haha.

Big yard was a little annoying in terms of fighting for washbays/school getting quite busy and there were lots of children, but these were all things I could deal with.

Firstly apologies if I repeat anything, I haven't read all the posts. I am on a large yard with probably about 50ish horses and have been for 8 years.

Good sides
- lots of people about, always someone to keep an eye on your horse ;)
- " " always someone to share vets/dentist/farrier visits with!
- you make a lot of very good friends
- always have a huge bank of advice to look to in problem times and ditto for borrowing if you have a hay or straw shortage!
- your horse always has company in the field
- in my experience there is more facilities such as 3 hosepipes instead of one, so if there is problems then there is another one to use :)

Bad sides
- can be very bitchy (now I leave "cliques" well well well alone!)
- lots of thieving (we keep everything locked up and don't experience many problems now)
- people have said that there's usually a queue for the school/hosepipes etc but I've never found this I am usually down between 8.30 and 12am.

DIY livery yard with 4 liveries and two of those are my horses. Own individual paddocks, large polo size arena and good hacking. YO leaves us alone but is open to suggestions. I love the peace and quiet as I have been on many yards over the years with thieves, screaming kids or snide jealous people. Have been there 2 years and will stay forever! lol

I own a yard with 40+ horses living here. I can honestly say it NEVER gets busy, the most we've had in the arena at one time is 5 and thats a rarity plus it's 60m x 40m so plenty big enough for 10+ horses anyway. Nothing ever gets 'stolen' and everyone is happy. Plus I can also honestly say it is NOT BITCHY!!!! :O

My place is huge. One of these days I'm going to count but I'd estimate at least 150 liveries and another 40 school horses. There are dozens of barns, 7 different arenas, riding lessons, summer camp for kids, a vineyard and winery, a vaulting team and they also host shows..

Despite the size, it's a very comfortable place and doesn't feel as big as it is. Each barn is fairly small - mine houses 7 horses - so you have your own little home, so to speak. People are friendly, staff is very good. There are minor annoyances but mostly minor.

I like it. There's always someone to ride with. It's a great place to get a horse used to activity. There are miles of beautiful trails adjacent. We all have our own tack and feed storage and it's not a hassle. You can always find a free arena to ride in - I often ride alone in the arenas.

We have a huge covered arena, a jumping arena, a full size marked dressage arena, a vaulting arena, a round pen and several smaller arenas.

Im on a large riding school/livery yard atm. Theres about 23 liveries and about 40 school horses/ponies. And i can honestly say all i like are the facilities, even at that we have a limited time to use them because of lessons. Its very b*tchy although it has been alot worse in the past. Id much prefer to be at a smaller yard with no children running around and having egg fights!!
