As title, how old are they and how is it going?
I am backing my 3yr old cob and today i rode him down the road for the first time, went out the front of the yard, round and in the back of the yard so not far at all. I was suppose to be going with a friend with mum walking beside me but ended up taking him out on his own with mum walking with me, he was very good, no spooking at anything, had 3 cars pass us in a row and he didn't react to that in any way so am very pleased with him :)

My 3yr old cob has done everything he'll be doing this year already - he's perfect happy to be sat on (hop up on him in the field for a cuddle) and has had my tiny mum lead about on him for 10min. He's still growing and therefore not ready for anything else :( So he just gets a quick repeat once a week or so of what he's already done.
 
Glad yours is going well and behaving, we are doing very short walks when ridden and he is listening to my leg and voice commands to walk on and stop most of the time so am pleased.
 
I am curently backing my 4 yo tb mare, she came to me a bit scrawny so i have let her fill out a bit. We have gone from always on the floor to her standing quietly while i'm sat on. Shes still a bit worried and she had me off when she took a step, but next time i get on she'll be fine, she fusses at something then the next time shes ok with it.
 
My 3 year old WB X Welshie has been lightly backed, been sat on and walked round the paddock, done some stopping, starting and turning etc, now she'll be turned away until next year. good luck to all others.
 
My tinker is 5yrs old over 17hh and about 3ft across his chest now he's filled out :p :D we started in March and have done LOADS of lunging, leading out, long reining. I am now riding him and practising transitions- he is a complete delight and I lovely every second being on his back :D

Just a thought: does this mean my baby lad is now officially 'backed' and is technically being 'ridden away'?? Booo how sad :(

Thats what i am doing, he seems to get a bit bored in the school and is more forward out of the school so am trying to not do the same things too much if that makes sense.

My 3 year old is hacking now - alone and in company and tbh is better than my 9 year old out on his own :) He has raced so was broken early and is just really pottering about a couple of times a week . He is so much fun to deal with and is really chilled and calm about life - shame he has got to go :(

Started in May and we're at walk-trot dressage test (playing at home not competing!) stage. We do canter but it doesn't look very pretty yet lol! She's 5, so stronger and more mature in her outlook. We hack alone/company busy roads etc too, and can jump a small course of about 60-70cm (although that is rather exciting so we're sticking to trot between the jumps for now lol!).

Does bringing a broodmare back into work after 12 years count?:)

My 19 year old arab is having a whale of a time being a ridden horse again, after so long, although she is proving to be extremely well schooled (not sure I will ever get used to riding an arab at a lope on a loose rein though, it doesn't seem natural to canter as slow as a walk) she has no muscle at all so it is very short and sweet at the moment.

I don't back my babies myself, I have a lovely, and very competent trainer, 5 minutes up the road who is twenty years younger and a lot bouncier than me to do that! :o

I started to back my 3 year old back in March, and he was happy carrying a saddle, and bridle and boots all round and I had just started to introduce some long reining. Just quietly accepted them, but then had a growth spurt so I have stopped and will probably leave him now until the autumn before I actually get on.
 
I have just backed my little man....He has hacked out 4 times now (with my nanny mare), and I am going to go back into the school today.....I am only riding him once a week, for less than half an hour, but he seems to get bolshy in the field if he isnt 'doing'.....

I am planning on turning him away, but I dont know if he will be happy with that.....I may have to keep him doing something once a week to keep him happy!!!
 
backing 4 year old KWPN, on session 23 now
shes cantering entire circuits in the field and hacking on her own down the lane nicely.
mounting from block, leg up or ground no issues.
lunging nice and forwards in loose side reins in walk and trot- lunging without for canter as our surface is deep and she finds it hard work as it is!
shes got a really nice contact established in walk with good bend in her whole body. shes getting the idea in trot now.
cantering has taken a bit of time out as the field is far too hard and the school is far too deep.
off to a clinic on wed on good surface yay!
 
All this talk of backing is getting me exited for when I back mine!
She was only 2 this May so I still have a long way to go!

my youngster is 3 and i have just finished backing him. He is walking, trotting, halting and cantering and even starting to show a slight outline.
Will be turning him away till next year in a week.
Can't wait to do lots of dressage with him next year!!! exciting :D
