Who is rugging at the moment?

I have to say I succumbed last night and put my mare's LW turnout rug on as it was windy and raining and quite chilly here. Felt a bit silly really but she is out 24/7, TBx mare who feels the cold and I felt sorry for her. Do you think I should stop pampering her? Who else is rugging?

Mine are out in the day with no rugs on, unless it chucks it down, but last night I put a fleece on my boy and my little TB had her lw stable rug on

(she does really feel the cold though!)

I was going to post this too, one of my boys looked quite cold this morning he was fluffy! My other two dont seem to be showing any signs of being cold at all! Suppose it depends on the individual horse, and wether its a wuss!!

My old TB girly has had her MW on a lot recently (much more than normal in August

) and I've even had to put LWs on my two youngsters.
My field is like a swamp, and everything is soaked.

Ha ha yes fluffy - thats exactly how I would have described my mare. Glad to know that I am not the only one spending too much time on the rug/no rug debate with myself every night.......

My mare is wearing either a thermatex or fleece at night. It's a bit tricky because it's often not cold at all when I leave the yard at 5 but she is cold at 8 the next morning.

I gave in last night and (oh god you lot are going to laugh) even the Dartie had l/w turnout rug - but only beacuse its blowing a gale and really cold. She did look rather confused about the whole thing I have to say!

I left in on today as she is being ridden and we keep having torrential showers that leave about 1/2inch of rain in 5/10mins

my girlie is having her fleece on at night now but she is TB and really feels the cold, if it is raining (or I think it is going to rain) she goes out with her LW on

My TB is having his L/W stable rug on at night at the mo, and a summer sheet during the day (currently on box rest again!!!). The Welshie and Irish x TB having lightweight t/o on during day if wet & windy, and as they are living out 24/7 rugged at night too! - Oh well, good old british summertime.....

My TB is out 24/7 (vets orders - if i had my way hed be in!). He has got a summer waterproof sheet on all the time, and is toasty! (Hes proving me wrong he isnt as soft as i make out LOL)!

Im struggling with this too at the moment, my old tb gets rainscold very easily and i keep putting her lw rainsheet on but then the sun comes out and she is too hot! I honestly dont know what to do for the best its so frustrating!

Am sorely tempted to get their fleeces on overnight for the stabled ones, and the little welshie yearling is a total mud monster and hasn't yet felt cold.

Cotton sheet or fleece on overnight (mainly because he likes to lie in his poo - but i've been down in the morning a couple of times and he's felt cold.

He's had his lightweight turnout on during the day a couple of times this week too.

L/W on at night, nothing during the day unless persisting it down. Showers, then sun, he can cope with.

When he was box rested.. he was rugged constantly usless the day was a scorcher cause he was frezing.. But he is a wuzz

The mare has her MW weight on, partly because the LW isn't waterproof enough for the sort of "showers" we're having ATM. She really seems to be feeling the cold and she'd thoroughly fed up of being out 24/7. She's a bit old and creaky and suffering a bit with her arthritis so I would rather keep her warm and moving than let her get cold for the sake of people thinking I'm mad putting a MW on!

The boy has nothing on because he is fat, so it won't kill him to be a bit chilly, plus he doesn't seem to care at all!

All mine are out in LW at the moment and they are out 24/7, although they do have one night in at the weekends and if competing they all come in as I feel guilty if one comes in and leave the other three out..... To be honest they seem happier with a little bit of a covering....

Mine are stabled in the day naked and out at night naked but if it's a bit windy or rainy then they’ve been having a light weigh turnout on I’m trying my hardest to keep the rugs off as they have to have them on for so long in the winter but on the other hand i don't want them losing weight cause there cold it's such a tough one.

Tommy section A is out 24/7 naked until yesterday Yo wanted all horses in as the ground was very wet and parts of it swamped . Missy ISH( 3/4 tb 1/4 Id , was out in a MW turnout with neck cover 24/7 , rug came off if it stayed dry or warmed up .

Both are in now though and rug taken off missy .

, i've started rugging up at nite. Got to yard this morning and it was a prefect autumn morning!!! PLEASE GOD it's only AUGUST!!!

Plus also both mine there coats are changing, i can see me having too clip really early as well

Haven't as yet, except a LW turnout if it's been torrential first thing. My mare was cold this morning though (she's a thin skinned chestnut TB, who's a complete wimp), so I think I'll be putting a sheet on her tonight (she's 26 and needs the help, bless her!). Hopefully won't need her LW stable rug for a few more weeks though...don't want to start rugging too early in case we have a cold winter - I want her to "appreciate" her big thick rug when it's down to minus temperatures!

Ours are all out naked (25yr old pony and 13yr old skinny tb included) bar one whose back gets sore if cold and wet, and since it is pouring atm, she needs a rug!

Been trying to rug as little as possible, just a summer sheet if its raining but on Saturday afternoon when I went down there she was shivering so has been rugged since....she is naked today so fingers crossed it doesn't rain

Mine are out 24/7 and are in LW rugs at the moment, it keeps them from getting too chilly when it chucks it down, and makes it a lot quicker when we are getting ready to ride.

My TB mare's out in a L/W at night but nothing in the daytime, so is my friends warmblood, but he's a big baby and sulks at the first sign of rain. The 3 ponies at the yard (dartmoor X, Welshy & a spotty thing)are out naked regardless of the weather, they're all fatties & it wont hurt them to shiver a bit of weight off!

My TB is out 24/7 and has no rug. He gets too hot with a rug on which i think is more uncomfortable. He doesn't seem to be bothered by the rain, and it is still pretty warm round here.

All out 24/7 with no rugs - I have resisted!!! Two were clipped about a month ago, they too are rugless. They are not shivering though, have a field shelter which they could all get in if they all played nicely, and lots of natural shelter for the unpopular ones

Shivering is just natures way of warming up - I'm pretty sure none of mine will die overnight without a rug - they all have more than enough of a fat blanket as it is! And yes sometimes they look a bit miserable - but hey don't we all when we feel like we haven't had a summer

Bottom of the field is a bit squishy, but the top of the hill is fine so don't think their feet will melt either
