who is still turning out in the snow

Yes ofcourse - my horse hates being in, if he is not turned out by 8am he is dripping with sweat and weaving like crazy. So for welfare reasons turn out must be daily. He doesn't mind coming in earlier though when its cold or wet, but since I have fulltime job and no way of getting up to the yard during the day he is out from 7am until 4.30pm, full clipped but rugged well and he is much happier. TBH I would much rather it was like this than hock deep in mud.
 
I tried to turn my old gelding out with his friend this morning, but they just stood at the gate and wouldn't move into the field properly. I left them about 20 minutes, then brought them in. We tried again tonight for an hour which was slightly more successful, but they were both still keen to come in!
 
lol my 2 were only 2 out in last snow early this year lol ok they have a leg at each corner and better equipped to staying up than us. You keep them in and you run risk injury as they go manic when turned out - nope its out you go in the snow play and have fun :) mine go out every day regardless of weather its what they are built for :)
 
Mine our out all day from 7am they seem to love the snow! They roll in it have a bomb around the field and root around for grass and ignore their hay. Bring them in at 5ish though and they are ready. Better than staying in 24/7 with no exercise!
 
Mine are out 24/7 and seem very happy. Bright eyed and shiny. They are a pleasure to work with, such a contrast to the awful last 3 winters with enforced night time stabling and no turnout in wet/snowy weather. This winter is actually spent riding and enjoying them instead of endless hours mucking out and trying to exercise/walk out each one in turn.
 
Definitely. I have no facilities to ride while there is this much snow around, so they must both go out. I might bring them in a bit earlier though, if I am back in time, but generally they love it. They are rugged up appropriately and have water and hayledge all day. And they come in with lovely clean feet and legs!

They do look extra cosy when I leave them in their stables with massive haylage nets and snuggly rugs!
 
Ours have been out 24/7 until today as I think they are much happier as they are fed twice a day and have have ad lib hay but we brought in 10 mares today that are due to foal Feb/Mar time and it was the scariest experience ive had in a while with them snorting and jumping with all the ice in the yard.Tomorrow morning at turn out will be fun to say the least. :(
