3 years ago i rescued a 5yr old male brindle staffie from a rescue centre who was going to be pts as been there for 3 years and been over looked. This was probably cause he cant be rehomed with any other animals at all especialy dogs as he is extremely dog aggresive.

Since then i hav worked with him ( ace) and he will now walk alongside friends dogs out on walks without a muzzle but still aggresive around strange dogs so tend to keep his muzzle on for safeness.

We had some new people rent the house behind ours and they have a jack russel type thing. So i let Ace out the other night to go toilet and had a schreeching yelp and him going for it. Basically the Jack russel had dug a hole under the fence an Ace had grabbed its nose n jowels. Ace come out with a few cuts to.

The owners came round this mornin screamin murder and sayin how our dog will be PTS as soon as council hear.

Now when i bought my house i was told the back fence is the duty of the house behind while the other 3 are mine. Ace doesnt dig so neva thought of putting extra fencing under. Because their dog buried through their fence im sure it is their fault.

However the woman said because he is aggresive he shld always be muzzled? does this apply when in their own enclosed 7ft fenced garden ??

Thanks

Tell her to pee off. If HER fence is inadequate for whatever reason then it is her duty to fix it and keep her dog off YOUR property!

Thats what i thought, she was callin him a deamon animal and he was standin there waggin his tail at her. Its a shame it happened she needs to contanct landlord i thought nd ask about ;putting meshing under fence ?

She seems to think tht is my job.

I'd have a look on your deeds to see which side of the fence you are responsible for. I think with a lot of of house's it's the left side as you look out your front door (that's what my deeds say on my house anyway, and I know it's the same for my parents). But it's whatever it says on the deeds.

However if their dog was on your property then I'd say it's their fault.

Tell her to bog off and to keep her animals from trespassing on your property or the council WILL be hearing about THAT

Ah thank you will dig them out later :) its a new build so when georgy whimpey took me round they said it was the one fence i didnt have ownership over. So hopefuly this will backfire on her !

She was a very angry chav, she looked like she cld of beaten me up ;)

Haha no will kieep quiet for now dnt want a war goin on

they would be hard pushed to do anything as the dog was on your grounds, to be pts it would have to be livestock attack or people.

Personally I would put something into writing regarding the security of their pet trespassing into your grounds. Do NOT accept any liability or anything along the lines of your dog doing theirs any harm. Just a polite reminder that their dog should be kept under control and not cross the boundary lines of the property. If they are renting you could in future contact their landlord but warn them in advance you will be doing so if it should happen again.

Can't blame a terrier for digging its what comes naturally but at the same point be worth checking their dog isn't in your garden before you let yours out just in case.

Personally I would be furious that another dog did damage to mine as in all honesty I wouldn't expect a killer the other side of the fence if mine did get out.

However legally they don't have a leg to stand on as its your property, your dog didn't escape theirs dug its way in.

hmm

i dont know id understand if mine dug through and attacked hers. When we got him he was 1000 x worse. he hates a muzzle and wldnt expect him too wander round the garden in one.

Dug out papers and it is their fence so dont think its my fault. And i have put chicken mesh under it and put the mud back over. May be takin him to the toilet on the lead till they sort the fence out !

Your dog was guarding his territory and it could be argued he defended himself from attack?!!

I would try and prevent the dog from getting through if you can, I know it's probably not your fence or responsibility but I doubt the Council will dog proof her garden, and to avoid a repeat confrontation i'd try and fill the hole in with something he cant dig thru!!

Your new neighbour sounds like a charming woman!!

Yeh thats what i thought he isnt a nasty boy just been messed up along the way. I offfered when she was screamin her head off and wakin half the street up ( way to make friends ;) ) if she would like to go for a walk with me and Ace with a muzzle untill he knows the Jack then hopefully as he is a million times better with a dog he knows he wont attack again. He loves runnin round with the other neighbours Lab without a muzzle like a puppy !

She informed me she doesnt walk her dog he is a small dog that doesnt need walks

Yeh may have to dig up my side with chicken mesh material because sumthin bad will come out of it i Know.

erm I think an awful lot of dogs would react negatively to an unknown dog on their territory...... Rileys dog is not a "killer":confused::rolleyes:

He has never killed, he cld of done alot more damage but when i went over and pulled him off he releases straight away. shame he is great with people my 4 yr old neice lies all over him :)

'all hail Riley', you can do no wrong i am envious

seriously though for my own peace of mind i would put up a secure fence that will keep her dog out, i could not be doing with the worry of a repeat performance and possibly visits from the council, dog warden and other welfare groups. i would imagine putting up a more secure boundary would take little effort from a strapping young man and it may be more difficult for her to do it or get the landlord too, of course if all else fails you can invite your harem round for a fencing party and they can do it for you;)

haha ? tell the toehrs tht ;)

Yep looks that way ! anyone ever put anything down or will chicken wire another 2 foot or so under do ? or panneling ?

Sorry I couldn't help but laugh! He's hardly a "killer". He's a dog. It's what dogs do.

As far as I'm concerned (this is coming from someone who also has a dog aggressive Staff) It's their problem. Their dog was on your territory, and you can't muzzle your dog 24/7!

I want pictures by the way!

Mine would be fine if another dog arrived in their space and I wouldn't have it any other way but I agree not all would.

I'm not having a pop at Riley I think he sounds like he's doing a great deal of good for his dog but if he hadn't have been there I don't know whether his dog would have done more damage, and given the size difference I am sure a staffie could easily kill a JR, but thats not the issue.

Riley shouldn't have to restrain his dog in his own secure garden, the neighbour needs to keep hers out. All I am saying is that no-one wants to come across an attacking dog and most owners would be distraught if their dog got hurt no matter what the circumstances.

its a pain isnt it ? everyone sees the muzzle and a staffie and runs a mile away :o

Id hate to make him go out in his garden in a muzzle he hates havin it on pulls a miserable face ! haha

totally agree, must of been horrible to see looked worse than it was due to nose being cut up. However personally i wldnt of gone round screamin my head off like she did.

If the OP's dog had wanted to kill the JRT, it would be dead so we're talking about something that hasn't happened and a dog which hasn't killed anything is being labelled a killer. The little dog got bopped on the nose, not crushed or shaken.

It's the neighbour's problem and if she doesn't even walk her own dog....

No I agree it would get my back up aswell tbh. There's ways of saying things isn't there.

Dog hating staffies are a bit alien to me. The parents have two and they are just loons with dogs and people.

I think some are getttin a little sensitive here with Staffie n killers stuff, its a figure of speech doesn't mean the dog has literally killed something.

that shocked me she doesnt walk it an wonders why it is diggin up the yard ? far as a no i mean i might be wrong but Jacks are big dogs in little dog bodies and need just as much exercise ?

Yup, alot of the neighbours are not please 7:30 wake up by an angry lady haha

I know alot of people who have staffs who r great aswell the shelter didnt know his past so could of had a bad experience ? shame really

Dog aggression can be genetic, and then usually made worse by lack of socialisation at the important age.

The problem i was havin is he is set in his ways now, can help to some extent dogs he is used to only really bitches tho not dogs.

And on walks Must wear a muzzle incase someone has theres off and he goes for it when they say hello :(

I think its great of you to take on a rescue staffie with issues, without you he'd be PTS by now. There are just so many dogs in rescue through no fault of their own. The hard thing about rescues sometimes is you don't know whats happened to them, sometimes behaviorists will guess but they don't actually know.

I have 3 rescues, not staffies though, and although one had issues they are all fabulous.
