This has not been a fun viewing day- this course doesn’t reward good forward Xc riding, it punishes horses for making small mistakes and it has had far too many on the floor.
Maryland was big but really fair and created the right result. Burghley the same. This is smaller but far more difficult for the horses to read the questions and give the right answers

I personally loved them refusing to talk about Ros Canter in fear of cursing her round so talked instead about Tom McE's stag do 🤣

They should become a full time commentating double act!

They were so good in the commentary box - I think Piggy in particular has a vocation as a commentator when she eventually retires from eventing! She's amusing, supportive and gives spectators so much insight into the sport.

I watched off and on between doing other bits. Hope Tim Price is ok as he w/d his 2nd horse even though he completed on a cricket score with the first. Great to see Pippa complete well on her two and Gaspard on his own Bambam after his tip off on Zoe earlier in the day. Somehow saw both his rounds.

Hope Jesse Campbell ok after nasty fall.

Agree Kylie and Piggy were fantastic in the commentary! Made it very warm and engaging as well as insightful having both had super rounds earlier in the day.

Pau is always twisty turny and suits smaller nimble blood horses. There's only the racecourse part of the course which allows a good gallop. That said it's the friendliest and most fun of all the 5* events I've been to imo. It has a real party feel. The music during the show jumping is epic.

I knew Kylie Roddy was doing well because I was riding with a friend of hers this morning who was getting text updates - but I've just pulled up the results after xc and it looks like the course started to ride much better later on. Pleased to see Kylie in the top 10 still

Ros's time penalties meant she was on the same score at Tom earlier, but it's been changed!

I know, I heard them saying that she was on the same score as Tom on the commentary at the time she finished. I though they might have adjust the time due to a discrepancy over her being held, but just found out that the change in score was nothing to do with that but according to H&H:

"Ros said as she was galloping towards the final combination (28abcd) three fences from home, a string was still up at a crossing point and she had to shout to the stewards and slow Isaac down on approach, resulting in them losing time."

So she appealed and her appeal was upheld.

Full article here for anyone interested:

Neither of those things should happen, and she had polite words with a cameraman before her test on Issac too. Pippa F also had steward issues to pre dressage.

EU changes at the same time as us so should stay 1 hour ahead.

'Tomorrow’s finale here at Pau will begin at 11.45 a.m. local time/10.45 a.m. British time/6.45 a.m. EST with the final horse inspection (and yes, those time conversions are correct – the clocks turn back an hour tonight both here and in the UK, but not in the US, which is definitely not confusing even one little bit), and the remaining competitors will head to the showjumping ring from 2.30 p.m. local time/1.30 p.m. British time/9.30 a.m. EST.'

it looked like it was a harsh XC. Pau is always very twisty but not hugely scopey. Harry Meade said Red Kite was just not travelling and he pulled him up in the first half of the course. This morning he thinks the horse is throwing a splint

The EN article I think it a good summary of how Pau is compared to other 5*s with regards completion rate/issues.
