Who just keeps a mini shetland as a pet?

Very cute ponies everyone :D

I have two Shetlands - and they are such characters - and are mainly pets. I take mine them out for walks on the Estate and they love paddling and swimming in the reservoir in the warmer weather. They do have a few acres of rough hill grazing to go at, so have a relatively natural environment and space to move. My older pony has given confidence to both my sons even though he was never broken to ride and we have had him for 9 years now. I bought my second pony last year when my other lost his field mate and was lonely. They didn't hit it off immediately, but are now best buddies.

I had my eye on your little one when he wasn't welcomed! Your environment is so like mine, it's great for them isn't it?

I remember :) Thankfully he is here to stay and they are always together now with barely a cross word between them. This environment really is great for them.

both my little fluffies are much adored by my bigger horses, and the huge ISH especially loves to play with them. Yesterday he was nose jousting with Havoc, who periodically would wheel round and then come galloping back and launch himself at the big lad's head - and then get batted away like a cricket ball. It kept them both amused for a very long time!

I have two. Hustle is now rising two and his baby brother (Havoc) is a year younger. They are by no means just field ornaments as they have very important jobs to do - polishing buckets, scoffing leftovers, testing the depth of everyone's beds by rolling in each stable, patrolling fence lines and checking out any areas of weakness and loose schooling all the bigger horses. Hustle loves to come out on ride and lead, and Havoc will come too when he is less feral. Hustle is also available for travelling duties and had a very jolly day out at our local agri show, where he spent quite a lot of the day in the members tent masquerading as a dog! I swore I would never have a Shetland but I am now totally smitten and can't wait until they are old enough to break to harness. They make me laugh every single day with their antics!
They sound adorable and so funny. BUT where are the photos, especially of Hustle in the members tent. By the way was he meant to be in there or did he sneak in?

I am so jealous of where you live, it looks so beautiful. The first photo of your son riding was delightful and all the ponies fluff was doing a good job of keeping your son's leg and heel warm, what lovely photo's

I'd love to get mine a friend. He is very much part of a herd but he did meet a little one once when it escaped into the field next door. It was a mare too and there were almost hearts flying above him!

My mini Shettie was a bit like that when my foal was first introduced into the main herd. She was like finally, someone smaller than me! And she's loved him ever since, so much so that she even shared her 'how to escape through the electric fence' tricks with him...
He's reached the lofty height of 11hh as an adult (!) and my Shettie is only 33 ins but they are still best buddies.

I bought three miniatures as my cob was terrified of two I had to pass to get on the mountain to ride, he loves his field companions but is still afraid of the two he has to pass. Love my minis and they are a complete joy to own. Mine are falabella x shetlands and are just 32inches to 34 inches tall. Wouldn't be without a miniature ever again.

I need to learn how to post pictures............. Hustle was taken past the stewards at the members enclosure on the grounds that he was actually a big dog... and they were so nonplussed that they let him in :) I wish I had taken a picture of him tied to the lorry at the end of the day as he was so exhausted by all his new experiences that it was only his leadrope that was keeping him upright!

That is so funny and sweet.
