Right...its only done approx 80,000 miles but then there was a fault with the oil filter or something which meant the engine was knackered....so its had the engine and gearbox replaced brand new by Land Rover.(Apparantly its a known fault with this model??) Its a TD, manual ....Y reg, looks in very good nick and its for sale at £4,400. Oh.....factory fitted towbar too....

Does this sound a fair price??! He'll take my Golf in PX so this will be my everything car.....OH will have the posh one

The TD5 Discovery is not a very reliable car I am afraid. There have been lots of problems with the engines and also the rear air suspension, which basically colapses.

If I were you I would go for a TDi preferably 200 failing that 300 landrover discovery. This is the earlier model but by far the most reliable.

I live with a land rover nut, and am one myself if u need any more info then whizz me a pm

Sounds pretty good - I paid £5150 for a 52 plate facelift version with 84k on the clock - that was in December.

The 7 seaters have the air suspension, and they can be expensive if they go wrong, or you can get it changed to springs for £100 or £200 I think.

I also use landyzone for technical help - very helpful people there! Actually I fear I may be back on there soon, probs with starter motor which again is a common problem.. Only costs a tenner to fix, but getting the starter off is supposed to be a pig!!

I've found parts to be reasonable, I had new discs and pads on the front recently, and the parts were less than £50 delivered, and the local garage fited them for another £50.

I think that's why in some circles they are called Lamerovers

I also live with a family of landrover nuts!
The 200 or 300 tdi are the best ones to go for.
The td5 are useless for towing.

Defenders are good as well......we have one with a 200 tdi fitted, and tows really well.We also had a 200 tdi discovery. That was also brilliant.
The discovery with a 200/300tdi would probably be cheaper to buy than a defender with that engine. Also the discovery has a bigger boot area, and more seats, and is also probably more comfortable than the defender.
AND a big benefit for me is that the discovery has a better heater than the defender!!!
