Who looks after your horse when you go on holiday?

Another livery (who is also my RI) and in return I do hers when she is away so no money involved. Or if she isn't able to then I pay 1 of 2 friends who are also freelance grooms.

My yard is 100% DIY - no services but these 3 people I trust 110%

Was a neighbour, also SIL will do a turn or 2.
Lovely livery will be doing them when am away this year - we agreed pittance livery in return for FOC doing mine when am away in summer on several occasions.
If am away when Fuzzies are in, then I'll be paying her instead as lots more to do than in summer - apart from wandering in paddock twice a day to check - also poo-pick & top up water tank :)

My parents keep saying to get my Grandad to help out, but I don't quite trust him fully as he is a little inexperienced. Buuuuut Pip shall be going on Half Livery and my friend shall do the rest. Thank the lord for best friends :)!

To all who haven't been on holiday in years, this isnt even my choice haha! My parents aren't really horsey, they only take intrest in my mare because they have to, oh and pay for everything :o. I'd rather stay at home with my horse! But seen as I'm 16 my parents still feel the need to drag me along. I am greatful though :)

Don't knock it... by the time you are 30 the chance of an all expenses paid holiday will be a thing of dreams!!! Luckily my Mum is still kind enough to help out financially towards the odd trip away or I wouldn't be going anywhere!!

We rent a yard now, so family hols are a thing of the past, my mum and I take turns to go away/ look after the horses. Works well, the horses don't notice any change. To tell the truth now we have such a fab yard i don't really feel the need to go away anymore.... and I am sad as I miss my horse too much :)

Have a lovely holiday!!!!!

Hehe. Thank you! I am dreading it slightly, 2 weeks away from the yard is just quite scary! I will actually have to make an effort to look half decent! :P

I have a friend who texts me every so often to go and look after her horses for her when shes away for her lami pony and 17hh eventer (who is now more of a hack). She could put them on livery for less than she pays me (I insist no payment but she insists otherwise!), but I used to share a yard with her until i moved for a manege and she knows I know the horses inside out and can pick up any problems easily- which the pair of them have quite regularly with colic, tendons, lami etc! Looking after them next week I can't wait to see them again :)

I get my mum to check on my pony when I go away, which is very very rarely :p

Normally my daughter, but we want to have a family holiday this year.
So if anyone fancies full use of a 3 bed detached cottage just off Muggleswick Moor, coast within easy reach, use of 2 horses, 15 3 and 16hh,
grazing/stables available if you want to bring your own, fields easily seperated, pm me, just check our 2 daily

we're lucky as we're on a small yard- just three owners, and we share holiday cover between us- no money exchanges hands, just alot of goodwill. we each trust the others totally.

Small yard of three owners so we all help each other out when each other is on holiday - I just expect to be bought back a stick of rock! :D

I am very lucky to have Laura6544 and her Dad who look after my mare when I go on holiday. I trust Laura 100%, so I even get to have Dorrie ridden and exercised whilst I am away:)

Sister and I keep the horses together at home, so if one of us goes away the other is available. Mind you the longest either of us has managed to be away for is about four days and that includes daily phone calls to make sure all the animals are ok :)

luckily for me  - the various horses/ponies we have owned over the years have taken it upon themselves to re move that tricky dilemma from our lives by ensuring that we are now so poor that even a camping week end seems to be beyond our reach:D

Mine is on 5 day full livery so that just gets extended over the weekend.

I also take a couple of weeks a year off to yard-sit so YO can have a holiday too, as I know it can be tough to work constantly without a break.
