My rising four warm blood gelding is out 24/7 no rug and no shelter just natural shelter with big hedges and trees. He's perfectly happy even on the thick snow. His coat is like a bears - very very thick. I check he's warm by feeling behind his elbows and under his mane and base of ears - he feels warmer than his rield mate that has three rugs on!
