When you have a mare as clever as mine :D

My Z mare was due to foal 29th may, she had a drop of wax 2 days ago but nothing to write home about... I stayed up two nights checking her and nothing... All wax gone yesterday so I thought late night check and early morning too. She's a maiden mare so I was a little worried ( as I am a bit of a worrier ) ... Anyway, 7.30 this morning I get to yard and baby laying on the floor, must have been out minutes... Mare is fine and a perfect mummy, she looks fantastic and isn't run up atall! Afterbirth took a while to come out but all done by 10 and clean with no tears... Baby is really skinny... ( not sure why as mum was a fat pig ) she doesn't wanna get the hang of drinking for herself though still do' we're stripping it from mum and bottling it in every hour... She's trying for herself but just can't quite get it :( she's had a poo and a wee and is quite happy and getting steadier on her feet every hour so I'm hoping by the morning she'll be away!! She's by our stallion Cassio by quidam de ravel / Calvados and out of my Z mare... Her name Is Disney and proper name will be Efs Oslo de Ravel. Can't put pics up as on an iPhone but if anyone can for me it'd be great and I can email them to you to be put on here....

Quite relieved the whole birth affair is over, just for the drinking to be learned now...

Xx

Congratulations granny - I never get over the gooey feeling I have when I see mum with her new baby. I love the first communiaction between mum and baby, the little high pitched neigh from baby answered by the deep chuckle from mum.

Try honey on mums teats and on baby's mouth.
