Just taken Charlie Brown and Gem out for what I had hoped would be a QUICK walk in the forest. Did one of the short loops. Gem and Charlie ran off in the normal place so i called them back. Gem came but there was no sign of MrBrown. I waited afew minuets as he has such short legs it sometimes takes him a while but there was still no sign of him so I sent Gem to find him. Gem then vanished to. He didn't come back when I called him so I walked in the direction he had gone in to find him running round a clump of fallen down trees. I went ovet to investigate. I couldn't see any sign of Charlie but Gem was insistant he was there. Suddenly I heard whining under my feet. I looked closely under the trees and there where holes under there and Charlie was down one of them. He must have seen a rat or rabbit and chased them down it. He wouldn't come out and the trees where in the way so I couldn't reach in the hole and try to pull him out. He eventualy popped out. He looked at me asif to say theres a rat down there and then before I could grab him he was down the hole again.  I waited for what seemed like forever for him to reappear and this time I grabbed him and put him back on his lead. He was covered in mud from head to toe and I was so cross with him. After a while I let him off his lead again and he was back to being a good boy and coming back whenever I called. When we got home I hosed him off in the yard which he hated and now he's being so nice to me and asking for cuddles. I think he's sorry (untill next time he sees a rat that is :p ;) )
Oh ok I forgive him, How can anyone stay mad at this little chap. :p ;) :D :D :D

for exactly that reason. they are never boring!

im currently sat with my 14yo JRx in my lap, half hidden by the laptop, growling quietly at my son who is pulling her tail, and to be perfectly honest, she is my best best friend and i couldnt live without her.

your story takes me back to trawling the feilds behind out house looking for my late JR, who would no doubt be in a hole or chasing rats. at the time it was a right pain in the bum but looking back it really was fun.

hope you gave him lots of cuddles.

I would love one! A friend just had a litter of minis and if I hadn't got the two loonies, I'd have snapped her hand off for one!

I know what you mean about them disappearing, tho. Zak did a disappearing act yesterday so I'm glad it was the OH taking them out cos I would have been a puddle in the woods, crying.

omg mardy mare your little dog is the double of ours lol
how sweet

you got any pics? He is a mini apparently and I was told a proper JRT but got into all sorts of arguments / debates since that he is not as he is mostly black - but whatever he is - he is terrier x something. Cheeky and feisty and energetic but oh so loving too :)

newtothis there is never a dull moment is there when theres a jrt around. Yours sounds so sweet. It's sooooo hard to stay mad at them isn't it. Charlie knows just how to look at me to melt my heart and fall in love with him again. :)

MardyMare2 yours looks like a little cutie he has the same butter wouldn't melt look as charlie has. :D :D

cinammontoast sorry but i'm glad it's not just mine who runs off. I was abit worried charlie was stuck down the hole though I realy don't know how I would have got him out if he was. :( Luckly he's so small I don't think theres to much danger of him getting stuck :p :D

yes, she is sweet.. as long as you dont forget that she is not a dog, but actually a human and expects to be spoken to as such...

she gives chillingly human looks depending on who you are.

also, do yours ever pretend to limp for attention. mine is such a big fan of feigning an injury to get prime spot on the sofa.

Charlie doesn't need to do that  He always has prime spot on the sofa ;). He also manages to sneak under the duvet on the bed when the OH is asleep :D
The trouble with Charlie Brown is he thinks he's a rotti. He was chasing a blooming great doberman in the forest the other day and it was terrified of him. :o

Mine is the same!! He waits for OH to go so sleep and then sneaks under behind my legs - how he doesnt suffocate I dont know. He also thinks he is a rotti - just shrunk in the wash. He gives our staffi such a hard time I have to just about keep them separated. If he walks (or should I say struts) into the lounge - the other dogs move off his space.

Also re the wandering - I have had someone from the neighbouring farm bring him home when he has been walkabout! He slips out so quickly. I have become very paranoid after that though and always have one eye on him!! Probably why I rescued him off prev owner constantly tied to a lunge line!

My JRT is fabulous (well not when he p**ses in the house cos it's raining outside you know!!) but he's sweet, gentle and very very well behaved. Okay not always well behaved cos he's TERRIER after all but he's turned me from a 'yuck ratty little dogs' to a JRT lover!!! He'll fight off the rest of the pack if there is food he fancies with just a curl of his lip and takes on even the most determinded foster dog!! I know I can bring in the most dog aggressive foster and within minutes my JRT will have taught him manners and put him in his place!

He's fantastic and I adore him. :D Plus he's the best ratter around and earns his keep by working for local farmers!! He works for meat and it keeps my dogs in feed alot of the time!!! All for the bargain price of free cos he was thrown out from a gamekeeper cos he wouldn't work for him..ha he works for me mate no problem!!!:D

You just described Charlie then LOL. At home he's kept on a lead as he could easily get onto the duel carrageway (then there would be no more charlie brown :( ) I just don't want to take the risk. He has a teather in the garden for in the summer but I always walk him everyday. :) He keeps my OHs shepard in line. All he has to do is look at Gem and he gets his own way. :p :D

cobgirlie your terrier sounds ace. Charlie is abit strange for a terrier though as he loves going out in the rain and he adores snow. :) I love the way yours earns his keep maybe I should put charlie to work. I've been so careful not to teach him what rats are as his mum is the best rat dog ever and will often run off to go ratting (she's obcessed) but he seems to just know what to do naturaly.

Lol!! I have to drag him out in the rain and if I forget his coat he'll lay on the floor and won't move!!!

It's facinating watching them working properly! He works as part of a team with 4 other local terriers and they dispatch the nasties in such a humane and quick manner, far better than poison!! He's such a little cuddle monster but seems to know when it's time to work. He lives happily at home with my cat so it hasn't harmed him to earn his keep. Sometimes a couple of the staffies join in, I believe they were bred originally for ratting?? Might be wrong but either way they are pretty good, don't have the speed or agility of the terriers but certainly kill them quickly...and don't try to eat them as my disgusting Lurcher does!!!! He's now banned from farms if the terriers are working!! Lol!!

lol. thats my terriers only downfall, she REFUSES to work. she will, if the mood takes her, kill the odd rat.

OH is devastated because he reckons she would make a fantastic foxing dog but last time he shoved a brush in her face she snorted and pranced off. she is not the 'little dog with a big heart' he was hoping for.

she also always sleeps in bed with us, he says he hates it, but i swear he loves it really.
