Sooo I moved from Kent to Sussex and knew no body. But have a great life here. Had a field with house, which isnt the best grazing so moved riding pony to livery which is only a small livery and actually not many people hack out and the hacking is limited.

So just renting 5acres which we will put at least a shelter on end of the summer. Thing is I am back to where I started not knowing anyone and no one to ride with. I will have amazing hacking and barely any road work which will be great.

Just wondering how many people who are happy hackers just never really hack with anyone. Just being nosey. I think I will move its cheaper and I can do my own thing again in my own field.
Do you ever wish you had a hacking buddy?
Or are you happier without others on your hack?

I very very rarely hack with anyone else anymore. Think possibly once last year?

No I dont want a hacking buddy :) A friend keeps trying to set me up with hacking buddies but Im not really interested.

I know some people get bored hacking on their own but I prefer it.

I usually prefer hacking on my own although do hack with company as well. On my own I can go at my own pace and feel that I am spending quality time with my horse, I usually have my music playing and am really able to switch off and enjoy myself.

I hack alone 99% of the time. I don't mind mostly. Be nice to have a buddy now and then thou. I'm sure my horse is sick of me chatting to him for hours :)

I hardly ever hack with anyone else. I sometimes ride with my sister and I love riding with her, but we very rarely manage it because her horse has navicular and is currently unrideable, so she has to borrow one if we want to ride.

I hack alone a lot, because I prefer it that way.

I do make a point of hacking out with others fairly regularly as I think its good for the horses.

I hack alone all the time - keep horses at home but I'm jealous that you'll have a lot of off road hacking - it's the roads that bother me more that having company :)

Same as Capriole for me although it's nice to have company once in a blue moon.

Just make sure you always smile and say good morning to everyone you meet whether that be another rider, a mother with a pushchair, the old man getting the paper, someone in the garden, delivery drivers, just everyone and then you'll soon get people stopping you for a chat as you go. There's nothing like being on a horse to have time to stop and chat, other people seem to like it too.

I have my horses at home, and often hack alone. There are people I know around with horses, but my days off often fall mid week, so they're at work. If I'm off at weekends I hack with people. TBH I often prefer being alone, especially with my mare, who likes to go at her own speed, and gets irritable if she has to keep stopping to wait for slower horses!

Is there not a local riding club that you could join and meet other people in the area?

That's so annoying isn't it! I manage to hack out with children on small ponies and they keep up with me fine but some of my friends on bigger horses just let them dawdle along so I have to keep stopping :o

Opposite problem when it come to having a 'steady' canter though.....

My mare is kept away closer to uni with my youngster atm, away from home and my mums horse we also share... So I have to hack alone, really hard not knowing where I can and can't go/where is safe. But it's not too bad, my ex racer needs to build a lot of confidence with leaving other horses so in the long run I guess it will do her good, but I do miss hacking with others.

It'd be nice to hack out with others, and if there are any going out at the same time, then I will join them.

By the same token, I tend to ride by myself and pony is well behaved, so I don't mind going out alone.

I hack mainly on my own and what Maesfen said is what I do. I especailly(sp) chat to people if I,m near a gate! I do up to three hours on my own but more then that I do like company but only one extra horse at a time.
You hacking sounds lovely so enjoy your alone time. I,m also very isolated where I ride so just carry a phone though I must admit I wonder what use it would really be if I was in a situation that I needed it!

I always hack alone. I keep the ponies where I live and only my landladys horse is here and she doesn't ride him.
I don't think many people want to ride with the horrid one anyway as he has a habbit of suddenly desiding he wants to kill another horse without warning :o But I have the whole of the new forest to explore and just chat to my boys, the wild ponies, cows, donkeys or just about anything I see. I often sing as we ride along to. Thank god i'm in the forest realy and we never bump into anyone otherwise I'd be known as the mad hacking lady :o :D

I always hack out alone. Sometimes that's great because being a full-time Mum it's nice to have some peace and quiet with the horse, but sometimes it's just a bit dull. Horse also drags his feet with boredom a lot of the time- he'd love a hacking buddy!

I hardly ever see anyone out and about either.

I'v been hacking alone for about a year now. No one at my yard rides never mind hacks so I usually hack alone once or twice a week. I't does get a bit boring sometimes though as its all road work with no opportunities to go for a nice gallop!! I don't mind hacking alone but it would be nice to have company now and again :)

I have just started hacking alone, Sunday I got up early and went for our first lone hack at the new yard!! I trust my mare but I don't trust the cars and I have about 10 minutes of road before I get to the bridle paths so I think going early on a sunday is probably the best time to go to miss most of the traffic.

I must admit though that I quite enjoyed it :) and it is doing my mare good as she does suffer from serperation anxiety! So I will be sure to be taking her out atleast once a week by ourselves :D

I keep my horse at home so I dont have anyone to ride with, ive met a couple of girls out hacking a couple of times but they looked terrified on their horses as i approached them, so ive never bothered to ask to ride with them.

I nearly always hack on my own, generally I prefer it as I can do what I want, go at my own pace (generally lots of trotting and cantering!), go where I like etc. I don't mind going with other people sometimes and it is nice if I'm out with a friend to catch up. But sometimes other people slow me down or compalin about the routes etc which annoys me a little! I don't really have anyone to hack with at my current yard anyway but to be honest even when I've been on yards with lots of other people I still normally would go on my own. I guess I am anti-social lol!

Only ever hacked out on own, though I'd imagine hacking out with a good friend must be really fun.

Always hack alone, have done for years
Often bring the dog though, she loves trotting along beside. Nothing like 2 ears in front and a happy dog face below to make a girl happy :-)

I always hack alone (although not really alone - I have my horse!) ;)

It might be more difficult hacking alone if something goes wrong, but nowadays help is only a phione call away, not like years ago when you had to find a phone box!

I've pretty much always hacked alone, although sometimes with company, it used to be because I worked split shifts so tended to be off when everyone else was slaving away and working when they were off so only got to ride with company on my days off, now being a single mum I mainly ride whilst kids are at school so only get company on other peoples days off . I enjoy riding alone though, I don't have to go at anyones pace but my own and I get to choose the route. :)

I only hack alone if I'm short of time, but I love hacking out with friends, it's a great social and the horses enjoy the company too.

I always hack alone - hack with YO very occasionally - but I like just chatting to the horse, yes and the horses we pass in fields and cursing pheasants and saying hello to cows. I think I already am the mad hacking lady!

The rest of my life is so noisy with children, it is just lovely to have some time to do exactly what I want with my horse at our own (usually quite fast) pace.

I hack on my own too, when I moved to my yard 2 1/2 years ago I had nobody to ride with. I really missed the company as before that I had always gone out with several people and had great fun. I used to get lonely but got used to it my pony is great on her own we went exploring found new routes etc. Trouble was when I did find a hacking buddy my horse was a bit of a handful and whenever we cantered she would put her head in the air and tank!! Now we have somebody to hack with maybe once or twice a week and its a lovely mix of having time alone with my girl and quiet time to myself and someone to have a chat with en route when we do have company. As others said you are able to set the pace alone, my pony turns into a dobbin in company and I have to work my socks off. On her own she is more forward going.

I prefer to hack alone, then I can go my own speed! One of mine does not really do steady, and is dreadful in company, but chilled on her own. Plus I'm an anti social so and so, and quite like the peace, and not having to worry if my companion is ok.
