Hi all

Just wondered what you normally do. If a friend has two horses and you are riding one and your friend the other in a pairs hunter trials then who pays for what? ie petrol, entry fees...

Thank you!

I guess it depends, if she's asked you to ride then probably the friend, but if you've asked if you can compete the horse then probably you...although seeing as its a pairs class I'd probably go 50-50 on costs.
Have fun at the show :)

Half each if doing it for fun. Owner to pay costs if they have asked you to school their horse round

I have a friend who used to ride my (only) horse and sometimes compete her when her own horse retired and she had nothing to ride - we usually entered a class each, I paid for the fuel (as I was going anyway) and my friend paid her own entry fees. (she also paid for her lessons when she had them on my horse) However she now has her own horse, so if I wanted her to compete my horse (perhaps doing something I don't do for example) then I would expect to pay for both the transport and her entry fees as she would be doing me a favour.

... I sometimes ask a girl to ride one of my horses in pairs classes and in that case I get us there and I pay for the class ... As she enjoyed it, she then asked me if we could do it again and immediately offered top pay half the class.

I would split evertything 50/50, you have the ride of the horse for nothing so you're doing pretty well out of the deal. Your friend should be happy with that arrangement & if she's happy then there would be a possibility that she'd want you to go with her again. ;)

I'd say 50/50 split on everything, owner may be going to show anyway but more fuel is used towing two horses and unless the friend is a pro rider and schooling the horse it's only fair to pay.

I've horses of my own I compete on so I don't need to be doing pairs with her, just doing it as she asked me. She wants her horses to do xc and doesn't trust many people if anyone to compete them so I'm doing her a bit of a favour and for a bit of fun really. Thanks for your replies, it's been very helpful :)
