Sorry another poo related topic from me, lol, would you say ponies or horses poo more? My 17hh 3 year old hanoverian is in a field with three 13-14.2hh ponies and i am constantly being told my horse does more than a barrow a day, i keep saying hang on a minute when i had just him and my 16.2 mare in a field together they did a barrow to a barrow and a half at the most two a day between them. To which they reply well the grass cant of been as good as it is here (it was way better but i can only use that field once a year as it is only a couple of acres so you can imagine how lush it is) then they say well we can see it is your horses because they are so much bigger! Well i'll be honest i cant see much of a difference at all as they all vary. And when i had a pony she used to poo alot more than my 16.2, i dont see how my horse can eat at warp speed in comparison to theres, and surely a bigger growing body needs more nutrients etc and therefore not so much waste goes through. I am doing 1-2 barrows a day and they still complain, sorry rant over, i've never had this issue with poo before everyone used to just muck in.
 
I would strongly suspect the ponies are pooping at least as much as the horses. They are greedy so scoff all the time, and generally have very efficient innards. Especially mares, my pony mare does about 3x as much as my 17 hand gelding!

You can usually tell whose is whose once you get to know the texture/colour of each horses. Failing that, maybe a DNA test on the poop!

They may genuinely believe it depends on size but in my experience it doesnt unless its a tiny pony.
 
Don't get me started on poos, I had 1 mare (16hh TB) in a tiny paddock (due to injury overnight, she was back in with the other 3 afterwards) and she did 15 poos in 12 hrs which I picked up. Her owners pick up probably 1 wheelbarrow every week on average, not sure the maths is right there. Last night her owner picked up some but he spent 5 mins on it, I bet he managed to pick up 6 poos in that time, am I supposed to be grateful for that.

The other people had their horse in individual paddock
whilst it was being introduced to the others and they were picking up 1 wheelbarrow a day but since their horse has been in with the others poo picking seems to have been put on the back burner.

Admittedly I only do 6 wheelbarrows a week for 1 horse and 1 pony (who has no teeth and can't eat that well) but it's a lot more than my liveries do. It is starting to stress me out and I have never been that bothered before. I'm starting to get fed up of telling people to pick up their horse's poos. It's going to be individual paddocks if I have my way and then they can see how much their horse does.

Our 17 hand clydie and 15.1 cob do between them 1 to 1 1/2 barrows a day when living out 24 x 7. There are times when there has only been one in the field for a day, and there is little difference between them in what they produce individually.
 
Thanks everyone, i dont see how my 17hh can be doing 1 1/2 wheelbarrows a day which is what i pick up i sometimes even do two a day, its funny though as since he has been on box rest the last two weeks i take out a 1/2 a wheelbarrow in the morning and half at night and that is pee as well? Funny that!
 
We have a pooh picking issue at our yard too!!!
In our rather large field there is;
15.2hh Morgan
16.1hh ID x Tb
17 hh TB
16.3hh ISH
16 something Heniz 57!

so reasonably big boys! however i currently have a broken leg which means i cant pooh pick but i have made arrangements with my friend, that this winter, when i can walk i will muck her horse's out for her, (but before broken leg i did 2 big wheelbarrows a week sometimes more depending on how bad the field is - so i like to think i pulled my weight)

but the owner of the Heniz 57 is never at the yard and when i say never i mean NEVER! so my friend and the other lady in the field are currently pooh picking for 5 horses.......The topic is always on the cards and it changes when it comes into winter as our horses are stabled at night and again the Heniz 57 owner still doesnt appear, we fed the horse last year but not doing it this year! she takes the p$#s!
 
Had to laugh at this topic and felt compelled to answer. My big horse does about 5 big ones usually in the same spot, however, the shetland can fill a barrow on her own and you have to trail round the whole field to pick them up.
