Was thinking about it today...may not be the noseband itself, but the strap that goes behind their ears...try threading it ON TOP of the headpiece, see if it makes a difference...a thin piece of leather into the back of their ears after they ahve been used to just a wide headpiece can have a significant difference IMO....? Others thoughts would be interesting too....

i had a lesson today and my instructor re-adjusted my noseband - turns out i had it far too low so the flash wasn't working and he could still open his mouth and lean. So the instructor whacked it up about 4 holes, did it tighter and hey presto - magic light-on-the-forehand horse! never even thought that might be an issue!

head piece theory sounds right too - the poll is very sensitive and thats where they should flex from. makes sense

I honestly think it is prob the pressure from the noseband "strap" going over the head. Try threading it ontop of the headpiece and see if you get an improvement? My horse has all of his bridles arranged like this (or comfort headpieces) because he gets tense with the pressure of a thin piece of leather behind his ears
