I wouldn't ride a horse with a loose shoe in case it twisted. I do know people that do though, and they get away with it...

I have ridden my boy once with a loose shoe. Didn't go far, all roadwork and only a little bit of trot. Like others have said though it's sod law that something would happen to the shoe/foot so I don't like taking the risk.
