Who rides in this hot weather then?

I try avoid it, I show but I am quite lucky that my class is usually later on when its cooled down.
But if I do ride on a day when not competing I will ride later on so it is cooler for both me and the horse.

I am so harsh I go out deliberately in the heat of the day somtimes. When I have the choice and we have nothing coming up in hot weather I tend to try and ride before 10 or after 6. If it was a really hot day, and the show was nothing 'important to me' I wouldn't do it if the pony hadn't been prepared.

I do, he is fine if he is never ridden in the heat he'll never be able to cope with it at competition! I just hose him off when we get back.

I have been riding... set off at nine this morning and rode out over the common for about an hour and a half......

It was hot but there was a breeze and merlin only just broke into a sweat!!! Only just...... Under his saddle and girth and a little on his neck, but that was it!!

I do but try to ride early morning or late evening
I cant stand it so hot I want it to rain

It wasn't 'hot' here today (21 celcius), but very muggy & heavy but horse still had 45-60 mins schooling (practised a dressage test & popped her over a crosspole) and she's not very fit. Was warm by the end, but only sweaty under her saddle. This was around 2.30pm ish.

I rode hovis about 0930 but worked him quite hard. I confess i didn't ride as planned last night but that was more due to me not being arsed in the heat rather than him.
Both he and omar are still working, both get hosed off afterwards and both have salts in their feed in this heat to replace lost minerals etc. The only thing i'm really wary of is how hard the ground is now so am avoiding our grass jumping paddock until its rained.

Nope, I hate it, he hates it, why stress everyone out.

However he is now retired, and as hot as it was here today, between 4 and 6 it was plesant, so would have taken him out.

I did not like to get him too hot, even now retired he is veined up and sweaty because of the heat, however because he got hosed down and now does not he STINKS

I went out for a longish hack this a'noon but we stuck to an ambling walk, and just had a little trot and canter in the cool of the woods. George was only sweaty under his saddle afterwards (the same could not be said of me!!) and he had a nice hose down after.

I do sometimes but I just go for a hack/do light schooling and I always wash them off afterwards.

If it's possible I wait until it is cooler and ride in the evenings.

I do ride in the day - but don't do anything overly strenuous. Well I never really do anything strenuous

Pad doesn't seem to mind the heat too much as long as I vary the hack with lots of woods and shady areas.

Rode yesterday, nothing silly other than more road work than usual, he only got sweaty under his saddle, I normally ride early morning at any time of year, less arseholes around, less dog walkers, less traffic, I love it when the sun is just comeing up and shineing through the trees with a lttle mist in the air, luuurvely, or a crisp winter morning clear sky and sunshine, even less areholes around as the stay in their hovels most of the day.

Was going to ride the afternoon about 5.30 but it was still boiling and I was dripping after a major ragworting sesh! So we decided to just go for a walk in hand around the block. I'm aiming to ride at 8am tomorrow though to beat the heat as I haven't ridden her in about 2 weeks.

I wouldn't ride in the heat of the day if I had a choice, but at work I will (and do) if I have to (which is quite often).
They all get a thorough shower after work though - it's almost worth it!

Out of curiosity, what are people here defining as "heat"? It hit about 20 Celsius here today and people were complaining about the heat...but that's barely T-shirt weather to me. Being Canadian, I find the summers here freezing cold!!

I schooled at 8.30 this morning and went for a quick hack at 7.30 this evening.

G is a rather hot horse, he doesn't struggle just sweats a lot, but I don't like riding in the heat hence riding befor 9am or after about 7pm while it's this hot.

My car said it was 36.5 degrees at about 2pm. Albeit it was parked but only dropped a couple of degrees after 20mins driving.

We rode at 6pm tonight and it was lovely, I hacked out in a tshirt and was warm but not uncomfortable. The horses had a nice wash down afterwards too

I like that sort of temperature, but I think the spooky pony likes it colder. He got a sponging today after schooling, as he was quite sweaty. To be fair, he had to canter lots today.

My thermo said 28 in the shade when I had my jump lesson today, as Saf is a comp horse it is important that we can both get used to all conditions as we can not tell what conditions the events may be in? Today I washed off, scrapped and repeated till water run cool, she was fine, I was fine once I had put my head in a bucket of water lol

Just got back from bulgaria and that was bloody hot, here seems cool, lol

,sad thing in this country is the horses dont get to acclimatise to it,as it hits us like a brick...can have 3 days at 18 then it hits 30

,i try to work my lad when it is a little cooler, but today at lunch temp picked up so we did some flatwork, then jumping, keeps them fit,and he got a bath afterwards

When I had my old pony I used to ride all the time during the day....if he got sweaty I used to cool him off after with a sponge down and a gentle walk for about 20 minutes back to the yard after a hack or go for a 20 min walk around the field after schooling.

Like others have said, if I didn't ride in the heat he never would have got used to it for showing.

New pony hasn't been ridden in this heat as he's quite young and I do feel like a bit of a pony squisher....I try to ride before 9am but mainyl ride in the evenings after 7pm

The times I normally get there it's already too hot for me, never mind him. I really wanted to get Henry out last night as he hasn't been out in over a week (new and nervous pony arrived). However, I got there (about 5:30) and lost the will. He clearly didn't have the will in the first place, so I did the usual fly stuff and headed home for a PIMMS and tennis (on TV!!). Oh dear! I'm just not disciplined enough to get up early enough to ride before work, even though I wake up about 6. I'm terrible.
