as my mare is lame and may be out of action long term am considering the option of riding daughters horse.my mare is a 16.1 warmblood, fantasic in all situations inc heavy traffic ,calm and sensible and trust her completely.daughters horse is a 15 hh tb x highland .very hot headed ,not good in heavy traffic but good in open spaces and to hack alone ,very forward jumping but talented dressage.shes more like the horse i had when i was younger and thought it fun.now im 47 and not so keen BUT if i want to ride ,she could be an option and as daughter starting a levels could help her too.anyone else do the parent/child share with horses

My mum rides my pony (also very hot headed, but he calms down for her, I reckon the weight difference helps her there lol) about once a week during term time (it's difficult for me what with GCSEs and she works part time). It's a great help to me, even though she mainly works on the ponies' fitness whereas I school them.
What does your daughter think of the idea?

I did - and all i can say is its a good job i fell in love with him, and bought a heavy cob suitable for both of us to ride because my sharer - aka daughter has totally lost interest!!!

I rode as a child, had a few lessons with my daughter but she had the bulk - we shared 2 horses before buying our own.

She has hit the teenage years and is just not interested in said horsey now. I totally love him to bits so its all down to me now.

I look after him, am having weekly lessons to perfect my riding and luckily I have a wonderful friend who lives locally and hacks him out for me to keep him used to it(I am still in the school)

If i hadnt fallen for him so much I would have sold him - but I adore him, Ive defintieley got the bug and he is mine for life -
things have not turned out as i expected but im happy, the horse is happy and I am just waiting till said silly daughter comes to her senses!!" ;)

showjumpergirl yes daughter is happy with that in fact very supportive.she would be happy for me to help esp over winter and even compete as long as its dressage.ive not jumped for years and would die of fright jumping her mare.

My Mum occasionally rides my pony as her mare was sadly pts. We have a lovely 3 y/o filly who she is hopefully going to event once broken and ready but in the meantime, she enjoys the occasional mooch on my boy. He is very forward going and sensitive - you only have to think canter sometimes and he is off! She prefers the less hot headed type (Our filly is a lovely Warmblood who seems to have her head firmly screwed on from what we've done with her already!) but she still hacks and schools him. He goes very nicely for her actually although I think the fact that she is about 2 and a half stone heavier than me probably helps with control of him! I love watching her ride him as she obviously enjoys it and I know that she rides him how I like him to be ridden. My 69 year old Nan rides him when I go on holiday and gets along with him nearly as well as I do! I prefer my family riding him as I know he is being ridden properly and by someone who I trust as opposed to a loaner or another person from the yard :).

I do sometimes. I have a good old 16.2 country bumpkin, and hers is a whizzy 15h motorcycle. I love them both to pieces and each is fun to ride in their own way!

I did sometimes, on Little Cob. He was brilliant fun. I just hacked him whereas D1 schooled, jumped, competed, etc... I used to school him, before D1 could do it :)

Now, I'm sharing Dizz with her. It's not ideal, as we both want to compete, but we'll get her a horse at some point :).

We've shared since her second pony. Nominally one of us has "owned" each horse/pony but we've ridden as it suits. I currently have the ride on three when she isi at Uni and she has first dibs when she's at home.
