Here's my colt foal busily munching away next our 8 Saddlebacks and 4 Gloucestershire Old Spots. They make a heck of a racket squealing, grunting and knocking their troughs around at feed time but it doesn't bother this fella in the slighest. Let's hope he's as unphased about all the other monsters he'll meet over the coming years. "

Cute, what a good start in life he is having.

My horse loves sheep and cows, but has not had the pleasure of a pig introduction yet.

Our two went 'on holiday' to a friends place earlier this summer, when we had the fields sprayed. They were in a paddock right next to half a dozen Gloucester old spot piglets. I thought we may have trouble but F was her usual snooty self, and my lad H went straight over to see them. There were absolutely no problems the whole time we were there and H seemed to be quite friendly, actually going right over to sniff them.

So, no worries with pigs. McD's drinks cartons however are a VERY different matter!

both mine dont like pigs,,, but this year we went on holiday and I took Teddy we stayed on a Pig Farm ... at first Teds was nuts hated the pigs wouldnt walk past etc ..then by the end of the week he didnt even blink an eye at them...

so when a few months later we did a sponsored ride and had to go past a pig farm I thought thats good he is over his pig phobia .... no such luck he took one look and refused to walk past ... LOL silly ponio

Mine is completely fine with pigs and is more curious than anything else.

In fact at my old yard, when they installed a couple of pigs next to the bridle paths and we all took bets on who would A) actually get past them and B) actually get past them still attached to the horse, he was the 'escort' cos he just walked past without a murmour.

A waving buttercup on the other hand can produce all sorts of dramas...

LOL! Great photo and wonderful views, you are so lucky.

Mine are also fine with pigs, we have 1,200 of the little dears! Having said that it is a very common phobia amongst horses, thought to go back to wild boar who used to prey on horses.
Here's Spider saying hello to some of his friends....

I have never meet a horse who likes them, maybe because they are omnivores and can be predators?

Mine hate pigs, Captain shows this with much spinning and trying to gallop off, Fany with a glance and a snort. A pone of very few words and very little wasted energy is Fany!

I think it's more a case of horses reaction to anything out of the ordinary.. have you seen their reaction to camels, lamas, alpacas or emus for the first time? Most of them freak! lol

But once they get some exposure they accept them...some better than others! Buck, my Hanovarian gelding will hang over the fence and lick pigs...but he's plain weird!

Think it really helps that my foal's mum isn't worried by the pigs so he hasn't any reason to be afraid of them. I have an RID filly who is more interested in their food than them, typical ID. My daughter's loan pony however is not keen on them but then he has more of a spooky nature. It's amazing to watch riders go past the pig's paddock (set down behind a dry stone wall out of sight) as those who aren't aware they are there have no probs with their horses but some riders get worked up about them further down the road so their horses pick up on the rider's tensions.
