I am on a small friendly yard and over winter we divvy up the jobs so we all get days off and arnt all at the yard in the cold and dark.

My jobs are turnout Monday and Thursday and every other Friday for 5 horses and mucking out 1 stable. Other than this I dont need to go to the yard during the week (Ill add mine is only one of 2 that are out 24/7 but he comes in for hay and a feed while I sort the rest) Weekends are for us to do our own.

Makes sense to me as it saves fuel costs on the days my horse is done, and we have no flood lit facilities so cant ride or anything anyway.

Does anyone else have a similar set up?

I do miss my boy on the days I am not there though :( xx

We are on a small yard only 2 adults - 4 horses & a pony & try to share jobs all year round - we are normally both up every day at different times - & manage to sort the odd day off here & there depending on childcare & days out etc.. it works out well & is much better than being on a big yard xx

My friend turns out and I bring in, most people pair up like that though as horses not allowed out alone.

We turn a friends boy out all week and she brings our lot in at the weekend. It's nice cos it means once we've ridden and got jobs done the rest of the day is ours, we're not clock watching to be back before dark!

Have done in the past, but not regularly at the moment. We're a small yard, & the one lady I would trust has horses with different needs to my two, so they don't really fit well with each other. Do the odd occasional swop when their needs are the same. Last winter did a swop with a friend on a nearby yard, one wkend morning I'd do them all & she did the other so we both got a lie in, will prob do the same this winter.

My friend and I share a small yard. She has 1 pony, I have 3 (one of which she shares with me)

In the summer we're both up most evenings riding etc. In the winter we do 2 nights each in the week and share Friday. I do every morning in the week on my way to work as I live 5mins away. We both then do 1 morning each at the weekend and just work out who brings in on the day (if it's all done and I'm around I just pop up)

Its much easier having set days so we both get a rest. I go up every evening bar Monday's, but it means on my friends other 'job day' I can just go up and ride as I don't have the mucking out to do. On my nights I muck out in the mornings before work so I can ride after work.

When I was at a livery yard, the DIY people used to have a rota for the weekend turnout which I only stayed on for a while - mainly because my pony can be a horror and got into a terrible habit of dragging people round the yard because he was getting away with it (which obviously wasn't fair on those turning him out!) I also found turning another 6 or so horses out a bit of a pain as everyone had at least one little thing they wanted doing (breakfast in / boots on / rug changed etc) so I ended up just doing my lad myself.

I share duties all year round with a fellow livery(our horses share the field) so one of us will do morning and othet does evening. Makes it.much easier only going up once a day. If one of us is on holiday the othet covers too.
