Hello DD - Yes it is true - you do have to take a test in Switzerland. You do one test to compete unaffiliated and a harder one including a course of 1 metre jumps to compete affiliated.

I just qualified for affiliated at the end of last year. I did it by geting placed in equitation jumping over 1-1.10m courses (you have to get placed 8 times in the year). That is the alternative to the exam. You are marked on style and lose marks for not having your horse on the bit but you do not have to do the dressage test that is included in the exam.

I was not a fan of the system but I just did my first affiliated competition at the weekend and the warm up was much safer and more organised as the riding standard is quite high.

I try to!!!

We had a blast at dressage and hunter trials last year but came back to my first love. I may do the dressage with the local RC, but will BSJA mainly. So I can be added to the SJ cliche.

I'm not sure that I count as a showjumper myself having done very little for the last few years, but having just bought the new horsey, I'm hopeful about doing some more
