Who still has grass?

Omg the green stuff is knee high to a hundred grasshoppers laid end on end, and the horses are sinking in to fetlock high mud, I have had my boy inside at night due to the weather, RAIN every night for the last 20 days!!!!!

I'm in shropshire and we have loads of grass. we changed paddocks 3 weeks ago and applied fertilizer to the summer paddock. its growing like anything and is a good green colour. Much depends on stocking rates. I run 1 horse to 2 acres and dont stock any denser than that. I dont expect to feed hay until xmas/jan unless we get lots of snow and ice early like last winter.

We've still got loads of grass in the mares field at our yard (west of scotland), but also lots of mud :(
PS for all of you who are enjoying the heatwave spare a thought for us - it has not stopped raining here for 48 hours. Talk about a wet weekend!

Grass? I wish :( we have been resting our other paddock for the last 3 weeks and it has barely enough grass to last the horses a week before we would have to start feeding hay. Trying to make it last as long as possible in the current field but the not so good doers are being brought in for a feed every day to keep them going. Not known it this bad before.

YM says he has never had to feed hay in August before when we did as the grass stopped growing completely until we had some rain and the growth restarted. Been a right funny old year for grass and hay

we've still got loads! Dad is determined to get them to eat off the 2 summer paddocks in the next couple of weeks before we move them into the winter field full time.

We've got 2 horses on 15 acres, 8 in one field and the other 7 between 3 small fields (one of which we rarely use as it's really too small for 2 horses in. We just have to hope it doesn't get too wet before they've eaten the grass off as the small fields poach easily.

the winter field is rig and fur (like OP's) but is mostly clay soil, so despite being ancient lay it does hold water in the winter. One winter I remember looking across the field and only the tops of the ridges were visible as the furrows were filled with water! But it doesn't really poach except around the gates, but Dad has put hardcore down in them so they don't really get bad anymore.

we have a shettie and a 15hh in about 2 acres.. been strip grazed since june and boy, they are only a 1/4 of their way through!!

we are at an advantage we can let it rest for 1-2 months in the year :) i am contemplating hay making but there doesnt seem to be that much of what there is.. knee high in some areas (im quite short) but not much acreage.........

Another 'no grass' in shropshire due to the lack of rain.

We have double the acreage needed for the number of horses and rotate, poo pick and harrow etc, but all in vain this year.

The winter field has been rested since july and only has a green haze, whereas last year was rested for the same length of time, and had inches of the green stuff.

My plan is to split it into 2 in the hope that we will get some rain before the temperature drops, so that at least half will have some more grass growth on it. Also as my own horses are in full work I plan to reduce turn out to 6 hrs a day, but the downside is higher haylage costs.

Not a good year.....

Too much grass down here. I have to get the herd of cattle to eat it down first before the horses go on it, and even after that, I have to strip it. The farm has had three cuts of silage on top of a cut of hay!!!

I have loads of grass still on summer paddock, even on 1 acre I am still muzzling and restricting grazing for my rather round appy.

Winter field is 3 acres of lush pasture that hasn't been grazed for months,no way I'm moving in there for a while yet!

Pretty sure they're still cutting here in Devon as well, certainly having the weather for it!!
