We have a the most laid backed happy cob mare you ask for, the type you can stick your great nanna on and send them out for a hack.

Well not today we didn't! usually happy to have her girth done up stands like an angel, she was prancing about and shuffling away from me, so did her feet and came back to girth got there in the end. Then when we set out she spooked at everything things she normally walks past without a care. Well not today she decided to trot past snorting with her trumpet nose.

Then she randomely tried to spin with me so got a wack on the arse and we leg yielded up the road and all the way home she tried to jog.

I think she is in season.... Oh to own a gelding:p;)

I know what you mean when I put my horse out this morning he went down the field bucking and farting. Normally when I put him out he just ambles of to roll then grazes, I think it is because it is a lot warmer.
Going up to ride know, hope he is good, wish me luck.

I put a very similar post on a few days ago - Shy is just NUTS atm !! I can only ride him in the school atm, and he is sooooo excited, I'm afraid the daisy rein is back on to stop this cheeky spooking and bucking

What he needs is a damned good gallop, but there must be something in the air atm. ;)

Oh gosh really ? maybe she isn't in season and just high off some form of Horsey laughing gas. We dont have a school so will have to brave it ;)

I was thinking maybe the change in weather ? its gone very mild this week, no where near as cold and the sun is out :o Perhaps they are just full of beans and want to keep us on our toes :D

You are soooo not alone.

I went out on my sensible ploddy cob the other day, with a friend on another horse. Usually, my horse tries to nose to tail behind her companion and has to be firmly encouraged to go forward next to the other horse.

Not the other day. We had silly squealing followed by broncing, bogging off at high speed and bucking! She normally can't be bothered with anything like that, as it's far too much work!

My extremely sensible 6yo (put little kiddies on him etc etc with no probs) tried to bronc and tank off with me the other day... it was hilarious because his bucks are sometimes indistinguishable from his transitions into canter - he barely gets off the ground - so he got a crack on the bum and told off (whilst I tried not to laugh) I suppose even the most steady neddies have their excitable days :D

Just leading him in tonight, he had all four legs off the ground at once, up and down, up and down.....I have seriously threatened him with the chifney if he cannot behave while I'm leading him.

On tenterhooks in the school too - how can he POSSIBLY concentrate when their are horses out in the fields

I wish I could bottle this energy and inject it into his backside when he has his go slow days..

My cob is a nutter atm!!! He is very fit as is hunting twice a week, but as the ground has been so wet, have had to go a lot slower than normal, so not using up his energy resulting in mega bucks!

Also it is feeling 'spring like', with new grass growth coming through, although I doubt that will last.....

Good luck and hold on tight!

she's defo in season, and trust me geldings aren't any better! mine trampled through a wooden, barbed wire/sheep fencing type fence yesterday, because his friend move into a field close by, so he was out in the walk way between the 2 fields! not sure if it was because she was in season too, she was calling him a lot! or if he just missed being turned out with her!

I think they just like to keep us on our toes! luckily my 27yr old only goes into season about once a year now, but god she was horrible when she was in season!

My horse has been a pain today too. Yesterday, she was an absolute angel, we hacked and walked through an accident scene with police, paramedics, barking dogs, flashing lights and all sorts with out so much as a glance, stood still in a gateway while the ambulance came screaming past on blues and twos, then in another gateway while the second ambulance came crawling past us (I was like, thanks, but we're fine, put your foot back down - is there a hand signal for that?)
Today in the school, she was spooking at her shadow, taking no notice of any of my aids excep the ones that mean "go" stuck her head in the air jogging, prancing and generally being a ***. Its probably because I've just paid my entry fee for dressage next week! Lol
