Right with my quirky mare (napping and sometimes rearing) I have a choice of - Debbie Rielly (who would come out around £200) Send her to Jason Webb (australian something and she'd visit 4 2 - 4 weeks (probably £400 - £750 ouch) or Richard Maxwell who will come to me for £400. If I knew it would work and I would have a happy confident horse after I am prepared to take a chance. however they are a lot of money. Was also recommended Mark Smith but I haven't really heard of him

But then can also sort out her flight reaction to noises and stressing out and confidence issues jumping XC. Have any of you used them?

My Mum was very skeptical about the whole natural horsemanship thing but watched Richard Maxwell working with a friends horse who wouldn't load and is now a total convert (This was a competent and experienced owner and nothing worked on the horse and he sorted it in a couple of hours)
Mum has done two courses at his place and it has had a massive impact on her horse.
I think he's good because he competes his horses so is coming from that perspective and has practical solutions for problems and isn't too touchy feely if you see what I mean! Anyway from what I have seen I would recommend him and it is worth the money. Incidentally the horse that wouldn't load has be absolutely perfect since.

I used Richard Maxwell. Spent £400, got no results. People with horses with loading problems swear by him. I've yet to hear a testimony from someone with severe ridden problems having had great success. My horse is extremely difficult and he's clearly a good horseman, but personally I should have kept my £400. I sent my horse for intensive re-hab locally and got far better results and much better value for money. The horse is still far from cured though!

I have sent 2 of my horses to Sarah Kreutzer of Learning To Listen in North Yorks. She trained with Monty Roberts and I thought I'd give her a go....it was worth every penny spent, horses came home chilled and utterly bombproof. I know it'll be too far for you but it shows that natural horsemanship can work. Maybe not for every horse but worth giving a go IMO

I'm not sure that napping and rearing can be cured in one visit. So I'd go for the trainer who would take your horse and help, but also work with you and your horse together to make sure that you know what to do in the future.
