I expect this has been posted before but can't find anything. I wondered what Hyundai Santa Fe's are like for towing. On paper it says the maximum towing capacity for a 2.0 TD is 2,300Kg so would this cope with an old Rice trailer and a 15hh horse?

I've spent ages researching my options and this car seems to have really good reviews, low MPG in comparison to other 4x4's and I think I could pick a decent one up for less than £3,000.

Nah, mines an 04 plate. Bought it just as the new ones came out, but couldnt afford the newer one at the time.
They are abit funny looking (look more like a boat I think!!), but sooooo comfy to drive and fairly economical for a 4x4.

Dont get a Freelander, they are poo!!

Yep, this is my only car. Its not ideal for city driving coz thats what drinks the most juice and it can be a bit of a buggu to park!
If I go to Tesco shopping I tend to take hubbies car as the parking spaces are as wide as my Santa and your doors get dinged!!

My friend tows with an older model one but she only tows ponies. However, she does love it. I agree with you on the look though - the newer ones look much better.

This site seems very helpful for checking out towing capacities

Maybe you could try geta finance deal on a newer, better looking one?! I think thenew ones look fab and quite honestly for the price you get a lot for your money plus Hyundai give a 5 year warranty so, if i were you I would try go for an 06 onwards and still get some warranty on it.

we have a santa fe and we often tow a big iw 510 trailor with 2 16hh plus horses in...tows a dream..i love them, very reliable too, we have an 04 and we have never had a days trouble with it! x

We tow a 16hh TB type in an IW505 with a 2l 54 plate. Never struggles and is very easy, but mechanic said not to tow more than that due to the torque. I have no real idea, so I just believe him! Makes no odds to me anyway. Also find it's good as a "family car"; not too thirsty.
Family have the bigger version - Terracan - now that is ugly(!) but could tow a house, never mind a horse. Not sure they make those any more though!

I wish I could afford a new one but will have to get something that is a similar value to my current car. It sounds like a Santa Fe would easily cope with what I need to tow then. Auto Trader her I come:D

I think I saw one on Autotrader the otrher day - think it was a santa fe anyway, either that or the Kia - was going quite cheap but looke rather flash! i was tempted but I have just traded down my car for something cheaper! :-(

I tow with my 55 reg Santa Fe, tows very smoothly with no probs, i have a double trailer and take one 16.2hh horse in it!
I love my santa fe :)

I use mine to tow an ifor 505 with either two ponies or one horse and its great. Also brilliant day to day vehicle especially in the snow. Mine (02 plate 2 litre diesel) has 2000kg limit so check the handbook. I don't think its an ugly car and its very practical.
