As the title really, finding increasingly Jumping and XC lessons & Comps very stressful & I'm getting terrible butterflies in my tummy..& often find myself thinking why am I putting myself through this, do you find that Bachs Rescue Remedy works at suppressing these nerves? I jump on average twice a week.

I tried the rescue remedy when I first started competing as I get so nervous...It didn't do a whole lot I dont think...I am trying the Rock Rose now, which is meant to be for "terror" not sure I am quite that bad, but it does seem to just calm me a bit - perhaps is it psychological but even so, just does enough to take the edge off!I don't know why I get so worried, it doesn't really matter what score I get after all!
Worth a try, it won't affect everyone I am sure but you might as well give it a go.

I do for pre-jumping nerves - I've only recently got back into jumping after several years of flatwork, so I'm hoping I'll become more confident over time. I also use it occasionally before climbing aboard super-sensitive stressy ex-racer if she's had a day or two off!

To be honest though, I think it's a placebo effect - but it still does the job for me anyway.

If I was in your situation, it'd certainly be worth a go. But do you actually enjoy jumping? Even though I'm nervous beforehand, I always feel that a jumping session/lesson has been a positive experience - if that's not the case with you, maybe a new instructor might be the answer?

It's most effective if you believe absolutely that it will work :) Having said that, I've used it on various people / occasions and it has made a big difference.

One of the other things that would make a big difference is if you have a look at the way you are feeling and realise that actually it's excitement. I worked on this approach with my daughter, showing her that she always felt like this, that it was a part of her preparation for competition and that just as she knew she was going to feel like this beforehand she could look forward to the adrenaline whilst she was competing and the euphoria afterwards. In her case with the RR beforehand and hot chocolate with squirty cream and marshmallows to look forward to afterwards she seemed to manage to settle herself quite well. Experimentation with various teenagers / Pony Clubbers / early twenties has shown that hot chocolate with squirty cream and marshmallows is a cure for whole load of different situations!

RR is mostly Brandy, but whilst you can say "I gave the kids Rescue Remedy" it's frowned upon to dose them up with spirits! :D

My daughter uses it! She "had" to get some after a adult rider she admires said they too got nervous sometimes but popped this magical pill, I was packed off to the chemist!
I do believe I could refill the tin with similar looking sweets and there would probably be no difference!

I am a new convert to rescue remedy. I hadn't ridden my horse for 6 months after suffering a nasty fall when he spooked as I was mounting. So I had developed an irrational fear of getting on, not helped by the fact that he was a complete fidget at the block. During the last 6 months he has been brought on by a pro rider, I really wanted to be able to ride but the thought of getting on made me feel sick.
Yesterday I had a couple of squirts of RR, tacked up and led him to the block, I faffed about leaning over etc and took a deep breath foot in the stirrup and swung over, and he didn't move a muscle! I could have cried with relief, and as soon as I was on board the nerves completely disappeared.
So I am happy to believe that RR worked enough to get me to the point of being in the saddle again, looking forward to the summer now :-)
