Who uses Himalayan salt licks

Out of four horses, one won't touch it - thinks its a stone, two think they're lolly pops and scoff them in one go if you leave them in the stable, and one is normal, and licks it now and again, so it lasts about 6 months!

had a small one in the field and with two horses it lasted about a year... now i have the big block indoor so they have access indoors only - purely because the rain we've had has been so hard i don't want it washed away!

Mine likes his a lot more than any other sort of salt block offered in the past, but he doesn't get through it that quickly. He has a good lick every night though. There are different sizes though and the very small one didn't last all that long.

Not sure as she's not got through it yet, but must be coming up to a yr and there's probably half left. She definately uses it, not sure how often, she has been out all summer though.

takes the two horses in work about a year to get through the huge ones, the shetland (who has done no work at all in all the time iv had him...) gets through one approx every 2 months! he loves it.
i do sometimes wonder if i should restrict his access but he seems healthy so......

My girl has the smaller one in her stable and it lasts about a month, she loves them and has a good lick at night and whilst I am plaiting her up!

Dougal never finished his before he passed away, had his about 6 months, Jim uses it now, loves it, but again its still there and I have owned it for ages now. Think there better than the blocks as they dont break when small and are natural.

My shettie is the same last him about 2 weeks my Mare 2-3 months !! Shettie only gets new ones when My Mare needs one though ....

I find that two of mine didn't touch theirs...at least I never saw them. However, I got some advice from a feed company that it was important to ensure salt intake for horses in work, and a good way to do this was to stick the salt block in the manger that the feed is given, and the horse will by default get some salt in to the feed as he's hoovering up! Seems to wrk, in six months I'm now on my third medium sized for one horse.

I use them and the horses are all different in the amout of time they spend licking them.

I believe that if a horse needs more salt then its there for them, if not they leave it alone.

I don't like sneaking salt into their food I like them to regulate their own intake.

I have put one in my horses stable but she very rarely uses is....daughters pony has one in the field and eats it within days!

I have small ones hanging in the stables...the Welshie has a small one every couple of months, the WBP takes a bit longer and the cob uses it to rub her bum on!

I have the medium sized ones in all the stables, three of mine go through them in a couple of months, the third does not touch it. When Lucera was a baby she started licking her mum's when she was around 2 weeks old.
