Who uses TopSpec

i am currently using top spec comp balancer and top spec alfalfa for my just turned 1 yo.only got a couple days left of the balancer then switching to d+h sure grow, but staying with the alfalfa.i found it kept her weight on through that realy cold weather and made her coat real shiney, and has lasted me 2.5 mths.just too expensive every time for me.

That was my thought, it is very expensive each time, but if it lasted 2.5 months it would work out the equivlant in stud cubes or D + H suregrow. How many bags of suregrow would you use in 2.5 months? Mine were on the D+H Stud cubes before i changed. I changed cos we had TopSpec out to the yard. Mine have been on it 2 weeks now and are look good and holding weight well. But other opinions are always good!

What breed and height is your 1yr old?

i used with good results but then stopped using this season due to cost and the horse and pony who i felt needed top spec still look super without it????

The Top Spec Complete Balancer is the fully monty and most expensive version which younstock do not need, especially not if you are also feeding complete foods like stud cubes and S&H suregrow which also have vitamins and minerals in them. The whole point of this product, is that you use ti when you are feeding straights, like oats or plain chaff and it will add the missing vitamins and minerals. Otherwise you are wasting money.

I used to feed Top Spec to my TB mare and she looked fabulous, but her only other food was grass, haylage and hi-fi. That way it was an economical product to use.

I use D&H suregrow. My boy has been on it his whole life ( all 19 months of it!) and looks fab so I see no reason to change! It costs me £14 a bag and normally lasts me about 3 months. During the very worst of the weather he also had alfalfa with oil and a tiny bit of speedibeet. He's come through this winter really well. I did use top spec when I took on a very very skinny mare. She had just recovered from strangles and within a few weeks she was really starting to look good. Massively improved her feet too! However it is awfully expensive and didn't last very long.

Our horses are all on Top Spec balancers including our youngster. Have fed Top Spec for many years and all the horses look so good on it we would never change to anything else.

This may seem like a stupid question but why do people feel that youngsters need to be fed any balancers at all? Surely grass and decent quality hay should be more than enough for them? On a separate note, I do feed Topspec but just the 10:10 joint supplement for my 19 yo. No idea if it is doing anything as I put him on it as a preventative so i guess i may nevere know whether it is doing anything unless i take him offit. I do feed my 24 yo pony a maintenance amount of it though and he seems to be doing very well.
