This is a genuine how much as this mare is NOT on the market at the moment. We have 10 horses including 5 under 6 years old and it is just getting too much! This mare is a 5 year old who we backed last summer. She has now stepped up her education and is a cracker. She is safe and sensible, 16hh and an IDx. She has hunted, xc and done a few prelims and is always placed, EVERY time! She has an amazing careful jump and NEVER stops! She is bold but can be stong when jumping. She is schooling over 1m at home with ease. She never bucks, rears, spins, bolts etc, is excellent to clip, shoe, load, in fact she has the most fantastic laid back nature but she is a forward going ride, and I mean forward going in the purest sense, no nonsense, excellent in traffic etc. Would appreciate an idea on value considering the market etc, we want a fair price but do not want to give her away! Here she is....

In a better market I would say 5k plus, but sadly in the current market maybe nearer the 4k mark....
Good luck and hope you find her a nice home if you do decide to sell.

Afraid I'm not in a place to comment on price as I haven't bought (or sold) in the last year, and my latest purchase was from a professional event yard where I probably paid an inflated price anyway! However, just thought I'd say that I was happy to pay the money because the horse had very similar characteristics to yours - genuine, honest and talented.
I suppose the words 'mare' and 'coloured' may put some off, and I know it's difficult from one photo but I think she is very lovely - just looking at how carefully she's tucked her little feet up at the front makes me smile!
I think it would be a shame if you ended up having to sell her at some of the above valuations (not saying they are unrealistic though - like I said, I can't really advise!), but my gut says she should be worth a lot more as I'm sure she will be a very special horse for someone.

Thanks to everyone. We were thinking along the lines of £3.5k so it is interesting to see the replies. I guess we just need to make the definite decision of whether to sell now or hang on until the spring and compete her a bit over the winter if time allows! Thanks again everyone.

From your description above it is not clear whether she has been placed in just Prelim dressage, or Prelim dressage AND XC. If the former, then I think you would definitely be wise to get her out winter showjumping and get some good results under her belt to prove her jumping performance - then she is going to be worth significantly more in the spring.

if you sell now i would think around £3250.

if you hunt/compete trailblazers etc over winter and sell in the summer i would price at £5.5-6k with potential to go on to affiliate.

word of warning, not to take too much notice of valuations on here (including mine ;))

when i wanted to sell my coloured 4yro last year the general concensous on here was £2-3k but i got nearly £5k without advertising from the first person who saw her :)

I would say higher than most from the picture and her jump she certainly does look a cracker I would guess around the 5k mark but she may not sell til spring.

Even in this market form a friends experiance good horses still sell just slower than before and if they are cheap they usually have a reason, certainly several aparent bargains have proved to be not such a bargain!
